Theoretically, filling the tank with water should drive out the vapours. So you should (in theory) be OK to then drain the tank and weld it. *This information is based on a hunch, please seek specialist advice before trying this*

handy thread.... Gonna have to try some of these myself... The carlton has what looks like a leak on the seam.. Its been tarred up before but still seeps. I'm not surprised, petrol dissolves tar. explaining the leak ;D tbf, I don't actually know if it is... I was under it again this afternoon and from what i can see, It might actually be there to support the pipes for the rear suspension system...Theres a cracked clip above it... And its got over half a tank in atm with no leakage....
