Its been a while since i updated this so here goes. The nearside is now finally welded up, just gotta rust proof it and i can move on to the drivers side which shouldnt be as bad fingers crossed. That plate isnt welded in in the pic, but it is now, honest guv ;D I felt like a change of scenery today so i moved on to the front wings. I really don't fancy shelling out £300 for a pair of wings so i thought i'd have a stab at repairing the rot, after all i've got nothing to loose. So this is what i started with today. And this what it looked like when i ran out of grinding discs just now. I know it still aint very pretty but at least theres metal there now. It needs a few more little plates and a hell of a lot of grinding and filling but hopefully it should look ok when its done. Might save me a few quid too ;D Oh yeah, i know the workshop needs tidying up, I'll do it tomorrow, promise.

I did look into getting repair sections but no one seems to do them. You can get them for around the headlight but not for the actual wing. Still, this way i get use up all those little off cuts that are lying around the place ;D

GAH! I could have picked you up some new wings when I was at 'cobplace' on saturday..... he was flogging them off dirt cheap I'm pleased that the work is coming on so nicely. How much are you gonna sell it back to me for when it's done?

Superb work there Reverend Dicky Dee. Reminds me of when I used to weld up rusty old sh1tters in my garage every night till about 1am. Those were the days.
Its gonna be super-strong the old escort when you have finished that lot. What will you do to protect it all when you’ve done? Obv you can fill it with waxoyl, but is there any way of getting some paint on the surfaces inside the box sections too?
If only it was possible to dip the bodyshell in paint on a DIY basis.
Rust protection methods have advanced amazingly at the car manufacturers in the last 30 years or so yet us DIY lot only really seem to have the same weapons available to us as we did 30 years ago i.e. cans of hammerite and waxoyl blown into sills with a compressor. Can anyone think of any modern solutions to keeping your old motor well-protected?

good work rev:) and well done for the work on the wings, must take lots of patience (and butty's!) as for getting into hard to reach places what about some sort of spray nozzle on the end of a thin tube? or steel/copper brake pipe? not sure how to make it spray tho, could make it push fit onto a aerosol can with hammerite inside?

Blimey! Thats me knocked down with a feather then. The cheapest i've seen them is £100 each. There making loads on ebay. Cheers for that link anyway, its duely bookmarked but i think i'll go with repairing them cos i'm feeling very tightfisted this month. Its good to know it wont cost me a fortune if i do balls it all up though.
