after running around in mondern cars it was time to get all retro again, so heres my new 81 mk1 golf gti ;D an ebay find with much promise, but as usual some bits are not quite right! the car has had an engine rebuild, pretty much new bodywork all round and a window out spray job in its original black. all this was true except the chap failed to mention the spray job was done by his dad in a chicken shed! the paint work looks like it hasnt had it final cut and polish but will need redoing anyway! some pics: needs grille painting proper mint interior with new headlining and carpet! this is how dull the paint is quick experiment with 2000 grit wet and dry, cutting compound and polish didnt come out too bad! only problem is the paint is so thin is has rubbed through it but i knew it would need a respray anyway backbox is shot too, had to drive for 2 hours home with it sounding like a V8 on open pipes!

That looks darn good, and nothing wrong that a couple of weekends with the T-Cut wont fix. You tempted to hit it with the stick? Gainsborough's very local to me at the moment too, i'm only in Marton.

its amazing how small the world is with this forum it seems like there are loads on here from lincs, notts and yorks! or it could be just me!
it will take more than tcut to sort the paint is is badly orange peeled hence the wet n dry!
i usually cut around in a mk3 gti 16v but this is like a rocket with its massive 1.6 8v! it's ace!

all this was true except the chap failed to mention the spray job was done by his dad in a chicken shed! There's a joke about a 'coupe' in there somewhere... ...I'll get me coat... ;D
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Looks nice, I love Mk1's in black. Shame about the paint but I'm sure you'll sort it!

Apologies for the shameless thread revival (awaits flaming), just noticed your avatar optimusP, is that the same Golf, but on P-Slots? Or do you have another one up your sleeve? Thought it looked good on the BBs style rims..

Very nice, beetle too! You haven't been to Grimsby in the past few months have you, someone hung out the window of a Golf and gave me thumbs up when I was in the Rapid? I think there should be a Lincs division meet, somewhere near me
