I have just been googling 'austin metro engine swap', and similar searches, but I cant find anything I quite like the idea of a metro with a k series or something like that, or even just a high output turbo a-series engine. So, has anyone got any links, or even threads on here (apart form slaters metro, which is the reason a I want a metro ;D)

I *may* be being a bit thick here, but wasn't the metro available with both a turbo A series, and K series at different times in its life? Come to think about it, you could have a quad cam v6, or even a peugeot oil burner if you really wanted one badly enough!

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Yeah, but there is nothing stopping you using the K series front subframe complete with engine, box, shafts and hubs on the earlier styled car... Turbo A is even easier (if you can find one) MG metro Turbo is the only place it got fitted.

Or even a V-tec. If the larger Austin/Triumph Rover models had Honda engines, then it's conceivable that they may be interchangeable with a V-tec, and also that the swap from say a 216 into a Metro wouldn't be the most complicated bit of fabrication this side of Apollo 17. Just musing really, then again Vtec Minis and the odd Metro do come to attention, so somethings got to be possible along these lines.
