as title really. when the engine gets warm (doesnt do it when its cold) there is a visible amount of like oil vapour
not burnt, just like oil steam if that makes sense.
when i put my hand over the filler kneck - it then comes out from the oil breather and dipstick hole.
any ideas what it is?
ps....ill have no mention of broken rings - i cant afford that so it simply cant be them ;D ;D ;D

I wouldn't worry too much unless it's spitting out great chods of oil. You could check the breathers for blockages, but I wouldn't be overly concerned by it myself.

thing is, this happened just before my last engine went to heaven.
and now its doing it again.
its a sing i tell thee!!!
ah well, i made a profit out of my 1600 conversion after id sold off the broken engine and brought the new one. maybe i could do the same with my 2.0i conversion ;D ;D

it will prob run for ages like that, but thats what happened to the shuv engine just before it shat all 4 rings. Best thing to do is keep a close eye on your oil, if it starts getting dirty quick, as in 100 miles or less quick, its all over. Keep smiling though its prob nothing serious!

Its crankcase compression caused by wear in the bores or that thing i cant mention. I've seen it happen when the head gaskets on the way out too. It'll probably run for a while yet, but then again it might not.

or it may just be condensation, this time of year. Does it do it hot or just after startup, or after a good ragging?

It’s an ‘emission control’ system, fumes out the oil filler = less fumes out the exhaust = more environmentally friendly.

Its crankcase compression caused by wear in the bores or that thing i cant mention. Compression test? Might clarify things. I've seen streets Mk3 Escort breathing like that, although he's junked all the crankcase breathing snorkelling gear and just fitted a breather filter. As far as I know the rings in that are fine as the engine doesn't have that many miles on it.

Check the simple stuff first Breathers Blocked both block and rocker cover breathers ?? If it still does it then Compression test will tell you if its rings If its blowing out with force at Idle then it will only be worse under load/revs Breathers first though, I bet they are solid They normally are ;D

my RV8 does this too... doesnt seem to be blowing out (this can mean head gasket probs according to a friend) it just's like someone's having a crafty roll up in the rocker... hippy mice maybe?

breathers - call me a dumbass but this is after the PCV box thingy isnt it?
if so - I'm running a K&N oil breather anyways - its fine

I'm running a K&N oil breather anyways - its fine Sometimes the rocker cover gets gunked up inside. I don't know what engine this is but thereare sometimes gauze meshes built into the rocker cover which can get clogged. If the crankcase isn't venting through there due to a blockage it'll find the easiest route out (the filler neck if the cap's off). If that's blocked by the filler cap, it'll breathe through places like the dipstick hole. Basically there's always pressure in the crank case caused by the pistons movement, and this needs to be vented somehow.

that gauzey stuff is in the filler cap.
i spose theres a little bit ment to come out and stuff - but its never been this bad.
think i might buy this starion lumpor go find me a nice 2.0i pinto to put under the bonnet

No the pressure in the crankcase is caused by Blowby past the rings, the volume of the crankcase does not change.... 2 pistons up, 2 pistons down therefore movement of air but no pressure ;D The pressure is caused by blowby the K7N wont make any difference as it will be blocked before it gets there On a Pinto its that box on the side of the block from memory...... that will be solid ;D Its a lot easier to clean out breathers than do an engine swap, especially with something that was never designed to go there in the first place K.I.S.S......

You've got a 1600 cross flow haven't you? If I remember rightly, it's a little tin box on the block below the carb. Or is it the other side? Might be exhaust side, ages since I worked on one
