I never thought I'd utter these words...
"I'll pass on the S Class. I'll take the Morris though."

don't forget about these things being difficult to get through Biva still, there is a distinct possibility thats why there have been quite a few for sale over the last year or so.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I suppose all sorts of models have been given the treatment over the years. I've see a couple of Triumph Stag conversions and Robsport had a Dolly Sprint-based pick up for a while.
Ringwood Raceway had a succession of modified Volvos, though I think they were using a converted Mondeo estate when I was last there.
If only I could find some darn pictures...

i had a mk4 cortina done el camino style with the back window moved forwards, looks far better than an upright window on most carbased stuff, makes the bed a bit short though, your also much better off starting with a 2 door on most cars so the doors are longer and the thing looks balanced, i'm old enough to have seen a lot of these things over the years and most of 'em look rubbish.

Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

If you're buying a ready done one, make sure it's already declared on the log book. If you're contemplating building one, realise that you'll have to strip it right back to a completely bare shell, and the fully document the build (with photographs) to be able to submit it under the still current SVA Amateur Built Goods Vehicle class. Just cutting the back of the roof off and welding in a tailgate and bulkhead will never get you through a BIVA inspection. **EDIT** This applies to monocoque cars only, of course!! Good to see someone on the ball Not forgetting of course the minimum size bed requirements Full details of pick up problems here : www.the-ace.org.uk/BIVA-Pickup-problems.html

I'd love to do this to my Arosa: We got involved witha Matiz done like this , all sorts of issues as shown in the link I posted above , not to mention the main 'standard of construction' . Dependent on the car the floor structure often needs re-enforcing as there is so much strength in WHOLE modern car bodyshell .

The DS looks like a Tissier conversion and was done from new. They did a variety of recovery trucks and six-wheeled vans and ambulances on DS, CX and XM platforms. I once got 'moved' from the ouside lane of the A61 in Germany by a Tissier XM van. I was doing significantly north of a ton at the time.

In finland we've got loads of 80's camaros and firebirds that were converted for tax purposes, the only problem was that the bed needed to be X inches long.. So what did everybody do to their brand new f-body to avoid the extreme tax? Well extend the rear of the car offcourse Too bad it totally ruined the lines of the cars.
