Phoned up the insurance company today to sort out the engine change. And a 1400 16v at 150 bhp would only be a extra £80 quid, i phone up to say that I'm having a g40 standard (ish) and its £250 quid, i nearly feel off the chair, that just for 6 months till policy ends I don't know were they get there prices from, its ok though as paul paying that for me, I'm so lucky paul said its becuase of a baby supercharger attached to the front of the engine, i think there just greedy. ( because a woman driving) Hay ive got a supercharged 1.3 which could kill a porsche, scooby, cossie, (evo will eat me) but thats an evo. civic type r and that curse word. I cant wait to see there faces when they relise I'm a girl, and I'm only a 1.3 and ive eaten then alive.

I'm not surprised tbh. A standard G40 has some ridiculously high insurance group. I got quoted over £800 p.a. on one

Ouch! Not hugely surprised. Most insurance companies run and hide when you even hint at any modifications. Not looking forward to getting a quote on my full race Chamois... Hopefully the Imp Club policy will come up trumps again. I'm

What kind of 1400 16v were they quoting for? You'd have to do a fair bit of work to one to get 150bhp wouldn't you? In any case, that price for the G40 engine sounds quite reasonably to me! Insurance is a pain in the rse, no one ever wanted to insure my old Mk1 Golf with 16v conversion. Of course, now I'm an old b@stard (28) it would be no problem I suppose!

with the 1400 16v on throttle bodies and stuff, well the g40 makes my insurance 600 quid for the year now, with 1 years n.c.b so i guess not to bad

hmm, dunno, at 28 I was paying £650 a year fully comp... mods declared on a 250+ bhp S14 ... think with insurance you've just gotta be prepared to spend a full day shopping around.

my G40 was £475 when i was 24, with only a year NCB through Elephant - that's in a fairly high risk area too, plus it was lowered/sports exhaust/uprated charger which i declared.
My 22 year old mate got quoted £15,000 for the same car through saga (by law they cannot refuse cover based on age, only make it too pricey to be competitive)
