So anyway was driving down to jabba sport today to get a power run on my little gt on carbs. Get there get it all booked in, on the rolling road, she is having her power run which come out at 85 bhp, this is on a stock engine may i add. (pretty good for 10 bhp up on a stock engine which is good) And she wasnt as high as i hoped, so i decided to go out and get a trailer and drive to bridgend in wales (tonight left at 2pm sat after got home at 3am sunday) as i decided to go buy myself a G40 1.3 supercharged engine btw as my gt now is to SLOW..... She only has 61 k on the clock, sounds sweet, (helps other half knows G40 like the back of his hand ), so here comes engine change in the next 2 weeks, had a few new engines in the last month or so. I should be running at first about 125-130bhp, so can get used to the car before i chip and pulley my little baby, the power to weight in her to start off is about 185 bhp /ton ( so time to come play with the big boys ) When finshed i should be running about 150-160 bhp (if not more which i think is ample) As the power to weight is 220-235 bhp per ton nice and fast in my little polo. Jibber all comments on how nutty i am welcome

Your're not nutty, it all seems perfectly normal to me. Small car with average power becomes small car with big power. Works for me! ;D

160 BHP in a Polo! That thing's going to fly! It must have been pretty nippy with 85 BHP.
Will you be doing the engine swap yourself?

what's the spec of the G40 motor you're putting in it? i had 135bhp out of mine and it was rapid, 160bhp should be insane! got a good stock of front tyres?

Cool, be sure to keep us updated...
expecting more than 10hp up on a standard engine is abit ambitius? you are normally lucky if a stock engine is 10hp bellow what the books say!
Definatly needs a new mini blower on there, far better than the one on there...
sounds wicked!!!

Well, theres all the vaguries of rolling roads and how you can "accurately" map flywheel figures, but I say sod it, go for the G40 and as much go as you can wring out of it.

Sounds good, My mates little Bro has a G40 running approx 180BHP he'll be at santa pod today so I'll get some times/ stats tommorow when I find out what he runs. I know he's got a G60 supercharger and methonal injection so it should fly!

Everyone who owns a G40 always gets bored of the power - you'll have an Eaton M45 on it in no time!
Good work on finding a low mileage engine, all the ones I was looking at were over the hill and bloody pricey

Hope you've done some suitable brake upgrades first! Is it a Mk2 or Mk3 Polo you've got? Mk2 G40 would obviously rock, they did make a few at the factory but LHD only if I remember correctly.

That is indeed correct Stu.
256 Conversion from a mk2 16v Golf is a popular choice, doesnt fit behind 13" wheels - I'm putting my faith in G40 brakes (with servo) on the mk1

sounds like a fun project, bigger brakes are a good idea, as is a rebuild for the G-lader supercharger. If a smaller pulley is going to be used make sure it is in tip top condition, they are really not the best design and suffer when neglected or over sped. I read about a guy who had one with a small pulley, it went bang and put a hole through his bonnet! heres some pictures of a well kept but over stressed G-lader And i just like this photo, its from the same engine as the G-lader Its also worth considering a toothed pulley conversion for the supercharger, they take quite a bit of power to spin and so some power is lost to slip. I'm going for a toothed belt on my imp purely for this reason, stable boost under all conditions. Hers is my supercharger pulley in I-deas CAD The pitstop developments eaton conversion looks very good, and they also do a toothed belt conversion for the G40 and G60 www.pitstopdevelopments.com/g-lander.htmwww.pitstopdevelopments.com/tbelt.htmcheers J

That is indeed correct Stu. 256 Conversion from a mk2 16v Golf is a popular choice, doesnt fit behind 13" wheels - I'm putting my faith in G40 brakes (with servo) on the mk1 G40 front brakes are 239mm aren't they, same as Mk1 Polo but vented discs and presumably later design calipers rather than the Mk1 type with postage stamp sized pads? With a servo they should stop a Mk1 alright, it'll only weigh as much as a half empty bag of crisps surely.

Yep, even with me in, it weighs nowt. Ive got drilled and vented discs and uprated pads. Might even try a rear disc conversion for the hell of it

OK peeps, paul knows he g40 he used to do racing in one, i know to service the charger so thats all good.
Brakes are just g40 brakes, raicam pads, braided hoses, Or the same but with black diamond disc maybe.
The car wont be going anywere near PSD but thank you for the info, i don't need to pay there price for a pulley kit either, paul is sorting me.
I wont be doing the eaton charger, in all fairness you only need a m45 if you are planning on revving high, and well racing, power. The supercharger should be fine up till 170 bhp, that when i need to think about changin alot.
Thank you for all the advice and info

I realise that I'm probably gonna sound stupid, but I assume the G40 Polo had a brake servo....I know that RHD Polo's were fairly late getting servos cos there wasn't room.
