after a ballache of three days not spent working on the car I had a good day to day. Not massive progress but still a good day.
My mate Leigh popped over with the scrapyard refuge Herald, now its been polished up and cleaned inside and its looking pretty good.
And my mate Steve dropped in (he's got a 205 Pug at the moment but will be buying a Minor again soon). As he's an ex-Herald owner he gave Leigh's the once over.
Leigh's the one with the Keith Flint look going on.
For some reason thats sand in the boot floor not rust.
popped a new fuel filter on it as the old one looks claggy and I happened to have one the right size in the tool box. Also fixed a few bits under the hood like a sticking throttle cable and a loose airbox.
This is nasty, only visible with the bonnet up (no inner wings in the way) the tyres were litterally coming appart. Nasty, not suire the photo shows up the true horror but these looked fine from the outside. Check yours... All four were like that. One was so bad it looked like it was delaminating. Funnily enough they were fine a couple of weeks ago. One new set of tyres then...
Also found some more rust in the chassis but nothing much to worry about.
Got some work done on the Venotra when we weren't joy riding the Herald round or drinkig tea or eating chockie digestives.
Bang! and the grease is gone. Cleaning up the engine bay...
Got the brake MC and servo off OK, can get to all the bulkhead now.
final final honest final skim up round the wheelarches, a bit of kniffing putty in there just to make sure...
Last wheel well to investigate... Not too bad but lots of rusty flakes on the lower trailing arm Mr Wire Brush working overtime here.
Does it look any closer to finished?
Random shot of some Capri pepperpots I got off Dave numbers 'tother night. They are there to remind me I do own a Capri....
Road tested the Olds after the brake excitement and all appears fine. Can't work that one out. Will keep an eye and probably replace the MC anyway.
I was going to fit the heater matrix in the Buick but I couldn't see how to get the cover off. So I got the Factory Service Manual out. Its says - to replace the heater core you must remove the heater assembly. First drain the radiator and unhook the heater pipes. Check. Next remove the passenger side fender and inner wheel house. Access to remove the fender is improved if you remove the front bumper.
You're having a giraffe! I think I'll live with out a heater in there a little longer, the wing has to come off at some point in the future anyway so I'll do the heater then. And I though modern cars had crazy bad design for serviceability. Oh well.
