Been a hunt around scrapyards for some boring bits (corsa washer pump, mondeo door) but seen an extraordinary amount of retro cars between here and derby and back. Triumph Acclaim, Y plate, old man gold, lovely condition Mk2 Scrote in the breakers - povvo 1100 engine, front three inches and lower 6 inches of the whole car mostly rusted away. Nice and brown. Stag also in the same breakers, also brown. see a theme developing? Vauxhall Viva (i think - did they do them back to a K plate?), in lovely browny bronze. A 'baysplit' (well, it had split windscreen but a late rear end), yellow and morning-after-curry brown, tonking down the M1 I also saw a pristine, as in showcar condition, mk1 golf GTI but i had to leave a blank line just above as it can't be included with all the brown cars - it was lovely lovely lhasa green. Also not brown was the little fiat, looked like a 127 but had a fairly factory-looking bodykit, period alloys, and italian plates. perched three cars up in the breakers Sadly no pictures, as my phone whinged at the first picture that i'd go no memory left. boo. also cheezed off at scrapyard owners who promise they've got 'far too many of that car to go looking through, come and have a hunt', so you drive 30 miles, turn up and they've got precisely one, that's been robbed blind for months. Hunt? No mate, but you're a c.......

I just got a text message from Law (she's in t'midlands, visiting her folks):
"Hey, there's the cutest little VW splitty following us to Leicester - orange and cream with big eyes!"

Is the 'BaySplit' one of those strange mexican made buses which are a combination of early and late bus parts perhaps? Actually, think they are more a split style back end and bay window front aren't they?

There's two variations on the theme - either a factory half'n'half which is just built from whatever was lying around at the time, or you can get fibreglass 'split' fronts for baywindow vans which are.... erm..... shoddy. they just look wrong. i'm fairly sure the one i saw was a fibreglass thing as the lights looked to be in the wrong place.
penski.... i spotted it around M1 J25 i think about midday, might be the same beastie!

She was heading to Leicester from Bingham-ish direction.
She REALLY wants a bus. Seriously... I had no idea she'd turn this quickly.

Penski... They ALL want busses. FACT. My missus goes all wibbly at the sight of a nice split-screen. When I've made my million I'll buy her one

nick - buy her a bedford CF instead - not as cool but financially more sensible my good lady is a little more with it, given that she was seriously tempted to get a T25/T3/Wedge at action summer party last year. can only get more desirable, nicer to drive than a splitty, and just as capable for camping.

I love Splitties.... i don't love the price. It does nothing a bank-robber-esque ford transit doesn't do, it'll break down just as much, and they're not even that practical for camping!

poor old escy I'm shure it still has useable parts on it only the very basic i would have thought, bits of trim and glass. almost every panel had a sizable rusthole in, think the bootlid was ok and that's the limit. it was so rotten they were having serious doubts about forklifting it around the yard.... the taxdisk showed an expiry date of March 1988!

Yeah, I don't agree with those fibreglass 'Split' fronts for Bay vans, just don't see the point of them. Those factory half n' half's are cool though.
