Over the last few months , I drew up a plan in my head. Which involved ridding myself of vw's, getting a sensible retroish trailer dragger and a moped for work duties. Well, all the vws are gone as of sunday, The trailer dragger is in the form of a 1993 vauxhall carlton (lucky me ;D ) and the moped has just this second been pulled out of the back of the carlton... Its a 1993 on a K blue Honda cub90 (ECONOMY) if they didnt allready do mega mpg... (not sure yet what the economy means) Its allready been thru a few hands. 7 to be exact, and its last owner was a tad young, so its covered in stickers and its been a bit neglected.... I'm gonna service it and give it a decoke.. then get a fresh ticket (current one is only a few months) Its like having an old friend back. I had tons of these when I was younger.....

Nice bike. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the economy! Honda Cubs in photos always look so strange and archaic to me with their leading-link front suspension. All the Cubs in Australia have had telescopic forks on the front since the early 1980s and that image is hard to get past. I've never seen one with leading-link forks or leg shields in real life, and it gives them quite a different look.

DOWN&OUT didnt cost as much as it was worth as ive said , Ive had loads of them in the past. But sold them before the prices soared up, Ive regretted that, so when this came up i had to have it. WAVEMAN1500 Yeah i know what you mean about the front end. Most bikes you can comfortably use the front brake, On these its fairly difficult to do so. It rides over its own front wheel... Personally i love the whole ct90 thing with the proper front forks... I did once manage to fit cg125 forks to one... But i sold that too

SHE RUNS!! albeit a tad smokey.... the guy i bought it off said that it runs but badly and needs a new headgasket (doesnt everything if it runs badly ) lol... I started it once and it sounded like bad valves but earlier i pulled the plug and turns out theres no gap between the electrodes... cleaned it and gapped it and it runs great... Just needs new rings but i want to decoke it anyway....

nice one! These look nice, but what do you mean with the brakes? due to the leading link suspension when you brake using the front brake the front end LIFTS which is a very odd (and un-desirable) feeling to experiance on a motorcycle! after a while you get used to it and just use the back brake! lol or is that just me?!

yeah i use the rear too... alot easier... if a tad wierd if you've just been riding a conventional bike. Think the previous owner used the rear too, Tire is soooo bald the tube is poking thru haha... And yeah ive been tempted to build a chop one for a while. Although I'm thinking ill find another frame and a pitbike engine to do that... I like the earlier frames realy....(6 volt) allways wanted to try to get a mono shock front end built out of the original forks somehow... I love the original pressed steel

When you've got the money, you know you have to make this happen: Thats a ridged rear end on that too!! somthing i was part was thru doing on my old one... A pair of struts to hold the swingarm in a lowered position so it isnt so rear end high with the proper front forks nice to see it done

ive got an original condition 70cc version of one of these (no rust in frame AT ALL bar a bit of surface rust up for sale as it goes) the front suspension is really odd and hard to get to grips with, I put a lifan 4 gear semi auto in mine and whilst great fun at first when the engine was bedded in it would bury the speedo needle on the far side of the clock and with them brakes an suspension it was lethal.. so I put the 124 in the monkeybike where it should have been all along and put the original 40mph 70cc motor back in the cub lol...

you only got 40 out of the 70cc lump? those things are quicker than 90s if geared right!!! Your lucky getting one with no rust... Ive looked at quite a few recently and allways found it... This luckily is the better one even though i didnt check till after handing over the cash.....

granted the 6V 70 lumps came from the factory with a decent cam profile and massive valves, which would indeed enable them to far outperform their meager CC's but sadly mine is a 12v cdi version and these used the same small valve head as the 50cc version of the cub and as such are strangled to death and really not very quick at all.. also you cant interchange heads and pistons between 12v an 6v as the crank has a different stroke, not one of hondas better moments to be honest... yeah I was really lucky with the frame on mine its real clean, so whipped out the petrol tank and put a litre of wax oil thinned slightly down its back so it should last a bit as well...(mine is the c70C meaning its 12v liek the later bikes but has the round headlight and an ALL steel rear end rather than a bolt on plastic mudguard)

PHEW finally got that sorted... had the engine in bits slowly doing the top end. Given it a decoke of which it was in major need of. Also replaced the stem seals... new upper gasket set and all seals ;D

I never minded the odd front suspension, theonly time it got on my nerves was braking hard over speedbumps, i used to try and get 'air' ove every speedbump on my way home from work, though on one particularly hard landing i snapped the drive chain and was left looking a right charlie with no drive...
