Finally decided that this is never going to get done in my hands, and I need the garage space while I'm in NZ for my main car. This I got from this very forum (free) through a friend of Viscount Basingstoke, who had it sat at his house in Romford, in as many parts as it is now. Unfortunately, I never got anywhere with it, and as a result the owner (John) still has lot's of the parts - cam cover, intake manifold, carb etc to name some, and he also has a LOT of spares - spare rear subframe as far as I know and some other bits! This means he also has the V5. I'll give you his number to get in contact if you want the car! This car WILL need to be trailered. And yes, I AM losing money (of course). So, pics, not got many, but if people want specifics, just say. It's a pretty solid car, really minimal rust, and I've had it in a garage, so it's lovely and dry! Lastly I leave this country on Tuesday 7th Sept - if it's going it needs to go before then ideally. Contact me on 0779 089 5556 or papercutout @ gmail .com Thanks

Coming to a track near you! Maybe, maybe not, but it’s petrolhead that’s doing what is required at the end of the day – taking it away quickly for the current keeper with no hassle.
Yes, it’s very rare. But sadly it’s not that valuable – otherwise it wouldn’t be free… and putting something like that back on the road in good condition won’t be cheap (I’m thinking respray, renewing brakes/cooling system etc). And does anyone want to get into it that much?
Would be a shame to see it bangered or baled but to be honest and I'll probably be slated here, but no worse than all those that are ‘romantically’ rotting away in the ‘abandoned’ thread.
This is when petrolhead comes on, says he’s going to restore it and serves up big helpings of humble pie!
Anyway, whatever the outcome good luck to all involved.

Nope, the Viceroy was the successor (kinda) to the VX490, so the sporty one and the last of the "White Cross" Vauxhalls (which would make sense if it had the grille on). The Royale was the other model. I've only seen one other Viceroy, when I was belting about in a Victor oddly enough and when Royale coupés weren't that uncommon.

At the end of the day, its survived this far, if NAB wanted he could just ring the scrapman and get his £100 no problems. But, he's decided to offer it up on an old car forum (at a cost of £100 to himself), presumably in the hope that this will offer it a better fate than just weighing it. It would be a shame if it just went to someone else who immediately weighed it, that means NAB is £100 out of pocket, and these second and their and fourth dibs people, who might have been able to do something useful with it, don't get a chance.

Well, update:
Petrolhead is passing up on it in the hope that someone will restore it and put it on the road - he already owns a Viceroy and was going to use it for parts!
Retroturbo - it's going free because that is what I got it for, I'd feel wrong being given a car then (admittedly almost 2 years later) selling it on having done nothing myself.
I can confirm BITS have been overhauled previously though - note the sprayed brake lines in the engine bay. I spoke to the 'owner' who thought I'd scrapped it, but is searching for the parts he still has and the V5 for the next owner.
Justanotherhigh - YHPM.

BTW can I have whatever dibs as I know a man who'd love this 5th dibs? I should have known I should have offered it to you or George straight off! From when I asked a while back, the 3.0l engine's bolt straight in, only thing recommended is changing the gearbox for the 3.0l one as the 2.5 carb engine put's out about 140bhp and isn't man-enough! Will continue to keep people updated

as said above i already have one that is currently in primer that i rescued from being raced and i was going to do is rob it for bits shelf them in my barn and scrap the rest that i have no need for ....... but as i have seen there is loads of interest in it i would rather it go to someone who feels they can have a bash at restoring it
i can still help people out with transport though as I'm relitivley local to where the car is and this is what i do for a living , so at the cost of transport at £1pm you can have a stonking project ;-)
if all fails and you do get messed around with getting it picked up then i am more than willing to come and grab it if you find its not gone by the time you leave the country

Thanks for that mate!
Looks like everyone moves as quick as you though - Nick (justanotherhigh) had someone pick it up at lunch today! Great fun moving the car, then realising I didn't have the keys, and steering locked. I hadn't expected it to be picked up so soon, hence no keys!
Anyway, thanks everyone and I hope to see this on the road sometime soon, it'll be awesome!
