Ive just recently just convert from a 4 speed box to a 5 speed box (1400 16v) ive noticed my speedo is now out.
I had road angel in the polo, and the road angel was reading 50 mph but ,my clocks were reading 60 mph.
This has only started to happen now since the 5 speed box, does anyone know any clocks in the VAG range that fit stright in to replace the coupe s clocks i have, without any electic mods being done.
Reading 120 mph max as my needle goes off the clock and more.

yeah that speedycables lot can re-calibrate your existing speedo, you'd have to tell em how much it was out by.
you're unlikely to just be able to swap in another set of clocks cos the combo of gearbox and wheels you have is probably unique.
You could stick some labels on your existing speedo to indicate the true speeds, seeing as you can calibrate it with the road angel gizmo.

My Mazda 929 speedo was calibrated with Tipp-Ex cos it was in kmh. I wouldn't recommend this method though. In the end I took the plates off in case the speed camera's idea of 30 was different to mine...

I would of thought, given the wheel/tyre combination you were using, your speedo didn't read correctly before anyway.

If the speedo is out you can compensate, by simply driving a little bit faster (or slower perhaps, i don't know TBH).

both plates? i was gonna take the front one off mine for the same reason but mainly geared towards coming round bends with no speedo and finding a camervan sticking it at me. It had both plates missing for a while, but if I got pulled, "both my number plates must have fallen off, officer" wouldn't wash I don't think. So the rear one got re-instated. Most of the cameras around my area were forward-facing ones so the front plate lived in the passenger footwell... I got pulled over but the rozzers never said owt. I think they were a bit shocked that the thing was on the road at all ;D

At the moment, she is running in bbs while the wheels are waiting for refurb, they come off a mk1 golf so I'm guessing there speedo would be a lot better maybe.
The BBS are g40 wheels, so it ok as they standard et i think

Are the wheels and tyres you've got on the same rolling radius as standard?

On some vw boxes the speedo drive gear in the box is changeable, its plastic and usually red or white.i can't guarantee your box has one or it will fix your problem but if it does they are only a few pounds and well worth a punt before you go changing clocks and getting things recalibrated.

thing is, is it worth the hassle? most cars over-read by at least 5%, usually you're looking at nearer 10% difference. My scirocco is the only one i've ever used a GPS system in and have it read exactly the same as the speedo - the ford tourneo i hired for a lads holiday was only doing 100mph when the speedo read 110 as long as it's underreading you're fine, it means you can speed slightly and not get caught. well you know you're not speeding but passengers will be impressed by you apparently flouting the law so blatantly. the wife's mondeo reads low (!) so at indicated 70mph it's doing over 80, using that site shows only a 4% difference in rolling diameter between old and new wheels so i can't blame the boyracertastic ST220 17's, it's more like the crappy ford instruments
