Hey mate, just found this thread after the heads up today.
Looks like a nice little project. It doesn't look too bad in the pics, but I am sure it has some hidden delights just waiting to be uncovered.
If you need a hand let me/us know!
Lewis
p.s. not bored at all. looking forward to seeing how you get on.

update time well dropped the engine out yesterday and a curse word to get out, as mine not standard i had to strip all the exhaust off and once i got engine on floor i could get the body high enough to get engine out from under rear apron. but finally did it with a lot of grunt and pallets so here the oily hole where the engine used to fit and the engine ready to be stripped now questions how much of a rebuild do i do on the engine? do i strip and replace everything all seals piston rings etc etc or as it runs and dosnt smoke to bad just clean it up? i broke alot of bits yesterday mainily three jacking points and half the chassis ooops his new home had a lick of paint to so just work benches to source well a weekend spent on my own has yeild alot of progress sadly not what i had planned but saved me sitting at home doing nothing well in the space of 45 minutes i stripped the engine  now all looks good been running very rich so lots of carbon so can i scrape this with a plastic scrapper? all its needs is a decoke i ll port the head whilst there and new valve stem oil seals :-D engine fully stripped and painted awaiting gasket set (no pics as there on my home pc) sunday i spent stripping the loom and dash out and then started splitting he body from the shell eeek what a job after three fires i finally got the front of the pan seperate from the body just the back to do now As you can see pretty rotten but will keep me entertained for a bit

dude you have made some good progress with the car over the weekend. was the engine as clean inside? plastic scraper probably not do anything need a very sharp blade so it wont score the metal.

it doesnt look like you've braced it? Make sure you get the body properly braced before you split it from the chassis!! Nice little project tho

The bit thats cracked looks to only be the casting used to bridge the heat from the exhaust linked pipe to the inlet manifold so should give no problems.

That cracked pipe uses the exhaust gases to keep the manifold warm and to stop the carb icing in winter. It basically insulates and transfers the heat. You will probably be OK, but should you have problems with carb icing you know why!
From all the previous repairs, has the body been welded to the pan at all? If so, just chop at those joins, undo the bolts, and it should split easy. Then you can deal with the pan halves. Buy a spot weld drill bit, drill out the spot welds down the chassis spine and hopefully that will take out the pan halves and the previous repairs together.
That should save you some time and some cutting discs lol
Looks like a cool project, keep on it dude!

hey Keefy
all the fllor bolts just went rounf and round so i cut the floor out and the body at the back did eventually split just the front to pop apart. i am enjoying it as never done anything this major before but i feel i ask dumb questions at time as i don't have a clue lol

a little tip about the inlet manifold the heat riser pipe is notorious for blocking which means you get carb icing problems, the options are 1 clean the riser 2 fit an imdu (inlet manifold deicing unit?) electric heater below the carb 3 fit twin carbs ttfn glenn

good point 93fxdl If the manifold is blocked the easy way to clear it is with an old frayed cable. Clutch cable works a treat usually.
