Another boring day at the office today. We have a internal notice board where people sell plant cuttings, cakes and other wibblepoo.
I thought looking at this would kill some time.....and boy am I glad I did.
The advert heading read: Free - Subaru Legacy 2.0 GTB, silver.
Now i'm not the worlds biggest Scooby fan but the Legacy GTB is a nice car.
Did I read the advert right - Free?
I had to ask my brothers on Retro rides what to do at the time:
retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=86239
I called the chap selling it who turned out to be the director of marketing. He turned out to be a fantastic guy who spent ages showing me the car. He gave me a list of the known faults too:
The car is free because It’s old, needs work and it won’t be cheap to keep on the road. As an import performance car the insurance is reasonably expensive. Ie driver over 40 with 2 years NCB fully comp was 800 pounds.
The car drives well but the things I know that need to be done:
Front UJs are getting worn as it knocks on full lock when reversing
Wheel rims on rear do not seal well against tyres so rims really need refurbishing (I have been pumping them up each week)
Gearbox and differential oil needs changing (last done in 2005)
Left front electric window does not raise smoothly, related to an earlier prang on that door that was there when I bought the car
Rear windscreen wiper needs a new motor
The Air conditioning needs charging with HFC
Body work needs minor cosmetic work
6 CD changer in rear has never worked CD player up front does (radio is Japanese so only gets radio 2)
Taxed until Feb (so you could cover that for me)
The engine is in great condition, All timing belts and rocker covers were changed in 2005.
Last full service was in Finland in 2007 with brake and clutch fluid changed. Oil changed a couple of months ago (done yearly)
Tyres on front were new last year, rear tyres less than 10000 miles ago
Disks and pads replaced last year. Needs new anti squeal shims which I should have replaced but didn’t
New intake airflow sensor in 2006 – vibration kills them it is a known design weakness
Still on original clutch but no Idea how long it will last – It has not had a hard life.
Once I heard the car it was sold. I offered to take the car and pay Stuart for the remaining road tax (approx £80) and will give him a bottle of single malt.
280bhp 2.0 twin turbos (large and small) cant be bad !
I will collect the car on Friday and cant wait.
Some low quality pictures from the multistory car park where the car was today.
