I know this is something everyone has experienced. We all know that storing a car these days, with the SORN nonsense, insurance, rent, weather, security etc isn't much fun. I'm paying £600 a year for two lock ups. Ok the cars are safe and the council whom I rent off are flexible with the payments, but its got me thinking.....
Is there anywhere in the South or even Midlands where we can store cars safely and more importantly cheaply?
We tried something similar a few years back in the Datsun club but it fell apart due to lack of interest. I know security, keys and god knows what might be an issue but is there anyone else thinking along the same lines? shared rent = reduced cost....
Anyone interested?

we do a similar thing with our club we have a work shop shared between 4 club members the rent is £125 pw but works out just over £30 pw each plus each of us has diferent types of tools so we end up with a fully kitted out work shop with lathe mill drills engine hoist ect. shared space is good as long as there is mutual respect for eachothers stuff works well for us

I'd love to share the cost of some good space with my friend but I don't trust them. I am a very tidy and careful person.
I am currently looking at storing my XR4i for winter and the costs work out about £100 a month in one of those posh classic car storage specailists.
Not sure what to do really.

I must admit this is something I've been thinking about myself recently, not sure as to the best way to go about it though. It would be nice to have somewhere to store a car or cars, just in case a bargin came along..... A mate of mine rents a field (he drags scrappers in) so I probably wouldn't be totally stuck, but it's a bit far away from me, somthing nearer would be nice. Hmmm, I can se it now, the Retro-Rides workshop.... ;D

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I know, you get so paranoid with a rented lock-up far away from your house, don't you? Especially where mine is, I can't help worrying that the greasy little b*st*rds who hang about up there are going to wreck or steal one of my cars eventually, although for once that's not the council's fault.
Still, my family are moving to a new house later this month, so I think I can start stockpiling old motors in the driveway it has if I'm very nice to 'the ol' man'! (one of the advantages of being an impoverished student who still can't afford my own place to stay!) He shares my enthusiasm anyway, so as long as I help him with his Volvos it should be OK!
Although a Retro-Rides workshop sounds good! Anyone in the Glasgow area, we could start a regional branch! ;D

Do you have a skinny insomniac loser alter ego and ruin his life? Retro Rides as Fight Club, nice! But instead of making soap we make nice old motors. We can hang about in a run down old house and race old cars in the garden, then we can all go mental and turn to wearing black and committing terrorism and stuff! (too far? Yes? Oh well!;D)
"THE FIRST RULE OF RETRO RIDES IS YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT RETRO RIDES.
THE SECOND RULE OF RETRO RIDES..." You get the idea ;D
(What's that? Too far again? OK, I'll stop now!)
