I really want one of them towing jibs for my crusty truck. That would rule. Hard.
Is the tiscali problem due to your microfilter being too far from your modem? I had that when I relocated my poota... solved it with a new long cabley thing (RJ11?)

No it just stoped working for no reason, I've not changed anything, possibly a fault on the line but I'm waiting for British steam powered telecom to get back to me.

Have you run the gay tiscali fault finder thingy?
(c:\program files\tiscali\dsltest or sommert)
If you get red in any of the first three boxes it's tiscali's problem... red in the last box means it's BT.

How about this for a retro recovery motor? It's a Ford Transcontinental, which was an excellent lorry in its day, I know people who drove these things long distance and reckoned other than the Scania 111 and Volvo F88 there was no motor as good for the job. Largely a parts bin special the Transcontinental, the cab's a Berliet design and the engines were generally supplied by other firms such as Cummins. Translink still has some of these Transcons working in the north of Scotland recovering lorries, so they're not an uncommon sight still, bloody lovely condition too.

Hmm. Tiscali Customer Service (George Smith, heavy bombay accent etc.) such vast anounts of giraffe willy though, so I wouldn't necessarily believe that. They once cut out service for 7 days... but that was OK because they were sending us regular email updates of when it would be fixed....... WTF!!!

Does this count? Well, it saved me actually having to drive home from Nottingham. Rear spring main leaf broke.

No but tiscalli ran a test while I was on the phone to India and they recon it's B.T !! Had a similar problem with AOL. They said BT line fault. BT checked from their side and said it was their fault. Got a call from the engineer who was coming out to investigate it and asked me to put a different or new DSL filter onto the main line for the router and unplug all other phones in the house. Did that and it worked. Apparently DSL filters are very prone to electrical surges and can fail quite often
