I've now got my new van to the stage where it will move under it's own power so it's time to decide what to put on the sides. I like the idea of making it eye catching and cool - I can't have anything offensive as I visit customers in it, and I want it to look "authentic" - it's a RHD van so German sign writing wouldn't work very well. I was thinking maybe South African or Hong Kong? I'm open to suggestions though... This is the beasty after I got it out of the workshop for the first time in 2 months on Saturday. And for those that haven't yet been dazzled by it's beauty, this is the (identical ) van it replaced, complete with Ambulance back door (the original had a huge dent in it and the new door was free )

No, both were owned by "non-scene" (carpet fitters, both of them!) people before I had them - the one with the Ambulance back door is now with Andyvan in South Wales, and is apparently getting a re-paint

hehe, South African, wildlife containment ;D
Always best to buy outside the scene, that said, the wbx is a strange animal and very few know how to look after it.

That's the ticket - I'd love to see photoplops or photos of subject vans (they don't have to be VWs obviously)

Like this idea - perhaps add at the bottom 'Large Reptile Division' Few other ideas to run with, include; Ghost Busters, 80's British Rail Logos/writing, 80's Rally support van inc' stripes & blatant tobacco advertising ;D I was going to suggest have your company name in the style of the VW text you get on their literature... but then I scrolled down and saw that was exactly what was on the old van ;D I agree about buying your chosen 'retro' from outside the scene - I rather wish I'd waited abit longer myself and found a van at a bargain price, but I guess such vans from outside the scene are generally unloved, used & abused vehicles

My newest purchase cost me the princely sum of £120 when most people in the scene are asking 700 upwards for similar vans, but as you say, you do have to do 20 odd years of maintenance for them as soon as you take pwnership If you get bored and want a giggle at how silly I am, take a look at the 2 blogs for those vans: www.autohausdolby.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14www.autohausdolby.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=105

I paid far too much for mine really, but I saw it on VZi ages ago and had t have it, it belonged to Paul Medhurst, T3D, and at the time was on 17" cup 2's, it just looked right, it was low, and it was brown, what more can I say?, I'm yet to see one that I think is as cool as mine , but I would say that. Its got a set of his shocks, a pair of his rear springs, and some AVO springs up front, and although it looks ratty, is solid where it matters, so I didn't do too bad, and things work out well, cos I managed to get a lovely engine and box in there at last , as well as a set of cool wheels. Of course now its worth more than I paid , and more than I've spent, but I've had the van a while now.

Keep wondering if I paid too much for mine? - And I still had probably a similar amount of problems that you've encountered. The guy I brought mine off is a friend & owns the rather lush Atlantic that was in the show hall at Dubfreeze - my van was his first import. On getting it in this country he had to replace the alternator, and get two new front tyres cause the tracking was way-out. After only one week of my ownership (abiet with a trip to Newquay and back) The engine starting displaying signs of head gasket failure. After the normal head gasket change procedure it conspired that the head was cracked - so it now has a complete new head. At the same time it seemed wise to fit new belts, tensioner & waterpump, in-between all this the starter motor failed & the battery was replaced as the old one gave signs of being on its last legs (partly due to being the wrong size for the van) So buying a more expensive van doesn't exclude you from paying even more when its hidden problems rear their ugly head A some indication to the escalating Type 25/T3 prices the guy selling this obviously very nice LLE Multivan.... Is asking around £13K for it Makes me feel better about how much I paid for mine.

I'm actually working on my parent's (very nice) Bluestar Multivan at the moment. That's only been in the UK for 12 months and it is displaying classic head gasket failure symptoms

Got a good view of the side then? What's the company name? I'll have a chop at it.

This is the best one I've got - it's of my other (now sold) van but the difference is largely acedemic I'm not going to put my company name on the side of the van this time as it's a bit boring so I'm after something else - I'm very much open to suggestions with humour and eye catching nature being top of the list

Hehehe.....same colour as mine....know what you mean about the lack of maintenance !! Took me HOURS to get my front calipers off, and my brake fluid was BLACK !!! Oh, and getting the front suspension apart to fit my lowering springs was about as much fun as bowel surgery with a stick... They kick ass though !

Over the last 3 months I've forgotten 1 How much fun they are to drive 2 How fast a 1.9DG engined panel van with nothing in it is It might not technically be fast on paper, but the amusing manner in which the power is delivered kept me smiling all day

the DG is a great engine, the DJ is amazing. (thats the 2.1 on full fat tune!)
The torque delivery is superb, just a shame they don't rev too well and are so fragile.
I love mine. Wouldn't be without it now.

Just for inspiration some pics of a T3 of a friend of mine. It´s unfinished pictured - meanwhile it has a orange cover over the bed, checkered stripe goes over cabin to front bumper an he fixed a "Grill-Leiste" over the headlamps. It has a cool negative camber at backwheels.
