I seem to have woken up in some parallel universe. Mrs Ku has taken the Trans Am to work. Mrs Ku says "Did they do these in a convertible? I'd look great in a convertible..." So I mention that the Moose-Tang is fairly easily available in a rag top. "Oh, I like them, I didn't think we could afford one?" So Mrs Ku now has the jones for an early 90s 'Stang GT convertible. Needs to be an auto, prefer a V8. Good girl. Anyone run one of these as a daily? I've run a few yanktanks as daily or occasional drivers so I'm aware of the usual stuff like specialist insurance being required and LHD blah blah But any specific issues with (un)reliability or specific "buying" issues to look for etc. I prefer the idea of a 5.0 rather than a 4.6 (and have found a nice looking 5.0 GT 'vert) - which is better, not from a raw performance point of view, but a "living with" thing. Have a few photos

I am inclined to consider the v6 as being a sensible compromise. More choice and lower purchase price... anyone know anything on these?
Rmad - agreed!

Surely the v8 is the sensible option other than purchase price. The v6 is a 3.8 anyway so what difference is 800 or 1200cc going to do to fuel consumption? Think of the time you'll save, remember "you're never late in a v8". There seems to be a few 4.6 and 5litre v8 cab on Pistonheads for around the 5k mark.

Which is approximately twice the budget. O fear the only v8 in budget will be rough or a Fox and neither of those is acceptable

Early SN95 V6s eat head gaskets. Not a great powerplant in terms of flexibility or economy either - 145BHP and 215ft.lb, with an average of about 20mpg - OK, in terms of power, I know, plenty for getting around town - but still.
A lot of people say the 3.8 is one of the worst engines Ford ever built - I can't back that up myself but that's always the general consensus that I've had.

There's a 'couple' of people on the mustang owners club forum with them might be worth a post on there, say I sent ya...
one guy just got a nice problem free V6 vert in white for around £1600 iirc all ready to go, so pretty damn cheap and very pleasant to drive apparently, seems to be lots of bad jojo around about the V6 but most people who have them seem to love them, they even sound pretty good with a decent exhaust system, cheapest V8 'vert is going to be between 2500-3000 so you're goona be making a good saving.
I'd go for the V8 personally but if t'missus doesnt care about the powerplant save yourself a grand and get a V6, but ask on the mocgb get some personal opinions worth a lot more than our idle musings..
You know they did make gen 3 camaro 'verts as well as the T-top ones ?

She's not keen on the 3rd gen Camaro. 4th gen, yeah, 3rd gen is too masculine for her tastes. I see plenty 3.1 v6 gen 4 coupe around, not so much in a drop top. She's very keen on the whole convertible thing.
I reckon a v6 with a fruity exhaust will be fine for her needs.

I've driven a then-new V6 'vert and it was OK, as you say, if it were me I'd want the V8. However its not for me and it replaces a 4 pot diesel...

On the flip, I saw one a while ago that I was interested (yes, was a 3.8) in metallic green - all it had done was a subtle drop (about 30mm) and some gold BBS alloys with a little dish. It looked fantastic and infinitely better than the 'stock' setup. There was also a manual 4.6 with Nascar-alike wide steels and again, looked great. Proof wheels make all the difference I guess! Sounds pretty good to me

V6s can sound nice and she won't use the performance of a V8. A reliable easy to maintain power plant is really what I'm after.
