Good luck with it mate, I've just started the 5 pot conversion on my Doka this week. Cheers Andy Cool, look forward to seeing a build thread? The Scooby conversion won't be for a while yet, and I'm just about to trade the tax in for the van so that'll be that for this year! Not around now for a while, so updates will drop off as usual, but will try and get as much time on this as I can now I've got some mojo

No news at the moment mate really, I was down with man flu last week so didn't get a lot done Did manage to blag myself a seat swivel for a reasonable price though, and did a bit more rust exploration. It's actually not looking too bad

So, managed to get a bit more stripping done. Now all the carpets are out, and most of the dashboard plastics are off as well. Need a new fuse box cover and some repairs to the steering cowling, but I'm thinking of getting them flocked so some superglue/araldite should sort that out. Dashboard is in a right state, holes, dents, rivnuts, you name it! Still, that needs to come out but not right now! Wanted to try the Subaru seats in there to see if they'd fit, and with a bit of jiggery pokery I reckon they will. So, sit one on the drivers side, with the small piece of moulded carpet for the footwel.... Mojo booster 3 more weeks til I'm home again though

So, another small update. I finally kicked the Peugeot out of the garage. It ran, promptly overheated and I suspect it has a blown headgasket Which was what prompted its rebuild in the first place!! its now gone to the garage with instuctions to give it back when its fixed So, I set to the van with various methods of rust removal... The screwdriver! And the angle grinder with abrasive pad! Its all a bit scary! Then I got sick of breathing in dust so locked the garage up and took the Escort down to the 8 Ball opening night in the lashing rain! I'll get back in there next weekend

Update time! Some of you may know that my 205 has been taking up most of my time, with the Escort a close second! Well, the time has finally come to get back on this, the Pug has been evicted and is sitting outside collecting water But it gives me plenty of room! So, remember this? I thought it didn't look too bad..... Oh dear, it would appear that I was wrong First off, I got a spot weld drill and started taking the floor out, Underneath, well its a bit rustier than I thought! The piece above the jacking point looks like it was repaired, and I use the term loosely, with stainless steel, held in with a couple of spot welds and a lot of mastic It's completely rusted out the chassis rail and the bottom of the B pillar. Damn und blast as the Germans would say! Pics I've done a bit more digging, mostly of filler and Mastic. Seems the sill was repaired with the same stainless steel as the back was covered on, but the garage now has a fine coating of filler dust I thought I'd dig around the floor in the locker while I was at it! Big mistake And as if that wasn't depressing enough I thought I'd take a look (read, the wire brush) at this.... Oh dear I was dreading this as they're extended by about half an inch over standard! No idea how, but standard ones aren't wide enough to cover the wheels so I'll need to repair or replace.... More over the weekend hopefully. Pete

its so good to see this getting some love ... i know this truck pretty well ,a good friend of mine owned it for a while . i went with him, to buy it from a guy in clavering ,i remember it running out of fuel on the test drive and had a dead battery as well ,we had to leave it stranded on a blind bend whilst we walked a mile or so back into clavering to get help.not the best of adverts for a car for sale but we bought it anyway. he fitted the gti interior as well as the dubious speaker install lol. it also had a oak bed as well but this warped and i guess was removed and the alloy fitted. funnily he was also plagued with the cutting out problem ,it used to lose power and not rev over 3k eventually cutting out completely ,if you then left it for a while it would restart and be good as gold for a random amount of time before doing it again. he tried changing most of the injection system ,ecu etc but never could track the fault down. unfortunately my mate passed away pretty young (R.I.P Carl) and his widow sold the truck on. i still work with Carls brother Bill every day, so will tell him its getting the resto it deserves. some pics of it along with my single cab and bills panel .

Brilliant, always good to hear about a bit of the history while it was out of my hands. Think Carls wife kept it for a while, and it sat under a tree for a couple of years. I think I'll have to get you to do some paint on it now for definite More rust exploration has gone on, and I'm off into the garage in a minute, so update to follow tonight.

So, a bit more news, but not really on the van, though I have been collecting panels, most of them rusty, even though they were'nt described that way Oh, and JK panels? Shocking! So, the Scooby donor wagon was starting to make the place look untidy and with a week off I thought it was high time to get what I need (or at least what I think I need) and get rid of it. Into the operating theatre God there's a lot of wires there Much mucking around later, and a bit of grinder action as there's a bolt holding engine and gearbox together that I had no way of getting off! I mean literally, there was no way to undo it! The crossmember lost some weight All out, on a trolley I knocked up so it can be moved around! It's likely to be a while before it gets any nearer to the van than it currently is also been tinkering with the seats, again, a ballache, but getting there on those now! The garage is filling up with stuff, so need to have yet another clearout More to follow, involving cutting!

Here we go, this is the only van that I've ever seen with more than one grille/vent. Which leads me to believe that it is a custom mod done by the German who owned it before me Super SWB FTW!!! ;D

So managed to do a few bits and pieces after sorting the 205 (well, actually, I'm sharing time between the 2 I just change when I've had enough of one or the other ) First of all I bit the bullet and chopped the wheelarch out I have a spare, which I've cleaned up. It's still in need of a tweak, and the old arch was rolled, so I'm contemplating whether to try and do this before or after fitting. I've also been looking at the rest of the side and I have come to the conclusion that I may have to chop some more bits out The rust is pretty bad and I figure why patch when I can replace? I dropped the door, as it was just getting in the way, and had a dig round the chassis leg Yep, there are a few holes there Its a shame as when I had the van before it was all like this underneath, but where its been painted with that horrible black curse word (no prep, just plastered on) I think it's retained the water and rusted from the inside! I am tempted to patch this as I don't need to replace the whole chassis leg. Opinions? I think I'd need to do it from underneath unless I grind the inside away until I reach fresh metal, which is what I'm going to do now! Updates to follow Pete

I have the week off, so after having a bit of a clear up, I started inearnest on the van! First thing though was to build a metal folder using Tony BMW's plans over on the "making panels" thread! Had a few issues but I'm well happy with the result, and I got the chance to warm up the welder without worrying too much about the welding Not pretty but more than capable of doing the job I've been running the grinder round the bottom of the B post, not to mention spending a lot of time staring at it! I looked all over the net to see what the jacking point looks like, but no joy. In the end I swallowed (Gulped) and bought a new chassis rail. Now this might seem a bit excessive, but I spent so long prevaricating about it that in the end I just thought sod it! Here it is I just need to have a look at the back end as I'm pretty sure it's nice a solid, which is good, it'll save me doing the rear suspension I made a decision yesterday though that I would start at the front and work my way back. I'd already chopped the rusty front wheelarch out, had a new one (which went back as it was shocking) and got hold of a chopped one. I started to get it apart to see what sort of nick it was in. One problem with buying chops! They tend to be just as rusty as what you already have Anyway, I stripped it down, gave it a tickle and decided that this was the ideal opportunity to get rid of the fuel filler (No, it won't run on air sadly I'll be fitting another!) Template, chopped a bit out, then did it again, fettled, welded and ground down. I'm actually pretty happy with it, I even got to use my new panel beating hammers to put in the curve! Sadly, I'm not to happy with that bit so I may chop it out and take a piece from a rear wing I have. I'll look at it tomorrow and see how it looks with a fresh set of eyes. It's not welded in yet, just sitting there. Mojo booster ;D Oh, and this arrived!! No I haven't won the lottery, again, I'd just been dithering about, and then Machine Mart had a VAT free sale, so I saved a hefty chunk anyway. Makes my little Aldi one look a bit weeny Oh, and that will be up for grabs if anyone's interested.

Are you going to be using RJES kit for your engine swap?
Me and my BiL are partway into one of these (dead engine out and, er, that's it so far.....) and having spoken to Richard Jones, he seems to know his onions and the kit he produces is very tasty!

Good work Pete, keep cracking away mate and you'll have it done in no time. Last bit may not be true though you will have the satisfaction of knowing your not driving around in a rusty bucket full of wob ;D
Maybe it's 'cos I'm fairly new to it but there's nothing like a decent bit of DIY metal work for a sense of achievement IMO.
What you after for the little yellow comp? Apart from anything else my manual pumps are more than a bit tedious for the vans tyres.
