Hi All,
Was after your help if you don't mind?
I have a jago Jeep with a 1300 x-flow and 4 speed box, runs really well, but I would like a bigger engine, fuel injection and a 5 speed box for it.
I can't go above 2000cc due to the insurance and was wondering what donor car you would all suggest, not bothered about make, but must be RWD as I want to get all the bits I need from 1 car.
And of course, needs to be cheap, as in under 300 quid.
Any ideas?

+1 great reliable power, and good torque that comes in early (plenty for a fibreglass kit jeep), REALLY cheap to buy and for replacement parts and still simple.

Mondeo Zetec? Honda VTEC? Vauxhall Redtop? he wants a 300 quid donor car so the vtec and redtop will be too expensive to find a decent one

Sierra or granny scorpio twin cam, much easier to it than converting a fwd engine and having to buy all the extra parts you'll need, they are quite pokey and good on juice as well, I'm fitting one in me transit van.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

either a vauxhall omega 2 litre 16 valve ecotec, 130bhp and as long as the electrics are good and you clean out the air intake will go on for a long while. they can be picked up on ebay for 200 quid, i think a couple of guys on here have done just that!, alternatively (My memory of model numbers is poor) but i think it was the volvo 240 that was rear wheel drive with the 1.7 twin choke jobbie. they went well for what they were and I'm sure they can be piced up for next to nothing! hope that helps

thanks for the ideas, I need to have a measure up in the bay to see how much room I have between the turrets and then take it from there.
I really want to go onto fuel injection for reliability reasons.
Was also thinking about BMW 3 series as a possible?

loads of room in a jago for pretty much any 4 pot engine, you might run into clearance issues if your running the escort servo tower in it, it is possible to lower the tower though, often has to be done to fit 40's on a pinto in an escort.
I think you'll get a better looked after Granada for the same money you'll pay for a bmw though, garnnies don't have the yoof market after them so cheap ones don't tend to have had the noodles thrashed off them.

I've a jago myself and I plan (in the far future) to run a bmw 316 (m43)engine, I like it for it's short stoke revablity and there's plenty about at sod all moneys. With it denuded of several tons of bmw it should fly along, to tune it just need a proper down draft inlet(bike TB's!), big thread on tuning a 1.8 m43 on turbosport, negatives you gotta get a sliding propshaft and the lent over block might be too much to squeeze between the towers.
I'll probably still end up stuffing a bike engine in there anyway.

sierra. it'll all bolt on to what you have already (more or less) and can be fixed with a hammer if it goes wrong.

sigh... they all told you already.... sierra granada twink. You can get a donor granada for as little as £50 if you are lucky and the remains will weigh in for more than that literally every bit you will need is already there on the granada, it's a pretty straight drop bar some prop shortening and some engine mounts.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Honda VTEC? If you can find a a vtec that can go rwd for £300 i want to know. thought only the s2000 spins the right way. be pain in the having a car that has 5 reverse speeds one forwards. i suppose you could flip the diff over 180 degrees but still. anyway Sierra twink all the way
