My 3.0 V6 granada auto is not an auto.! Won it off of ebay ( without test driving it first ) then had to drive home only manually changing from 1st and 2nd. 'D' only stays in whatever gear its in at the time. Checked the fluid level, seemed quite high, so took it to my local mech. who looks after the fleet. Changed fluids to the correct level. Still the same. He's not an auto box specialist so any ideas. Should i just get another box.? I fancied fitting a complete Cosworth 24v + Auto box, but complete carb engine to Inj engine conversion could be a bit too costly.! ( + 3.0 runs sweet as a nut)

check the vacuum line to the transmission from the carb/inlet manifold. Bad vacuum signal is often a cause of bad, late or missing shifts in autoboxes of this era. If the hose checks out OK replace the modulator. Usually dirt cheap and on some boxes they are externally mounted so they are easy to get to.

a lot of adjustment can be done to the 'gearlever' assambly too.
a specialist wont charge much to look at it and give you an estimate
