Yep looks good but I think I'm going to go with the standard roof line to keep it retro. More disassembly this weekend ;D Keep it retro? - what could be more retro than a hand formed alloy dome, as fitted to hundreds of buses, coaches and commercial vehicles from the1930's to the 1960's? The basic shape for the one I used came from Dennis Poore's 1940 Dodge VK62B crewbus, and they don't come much more retro than that! Oh well, there's no accounting for taste I suppose, so flat top it is:- Best Wishes, DW

DW,
You are a star as always. Just my personal preference.
Plus the fact that thanks to your Photoshops I now think that by adding curves it reduces the '50s Brutalist effect. She'll never be pretty but she will stand out ;D

I'm just using her to practise Photoshopping on, it's great if you like my efforts, but just as valuable if it helps you decide what you don't want. Does look tough in the front threequarter view though, doesn't she? DW

Great to see a Green Goddess (showing my age heh! you're a brave man taking that on! For my two half penny worth could I suggest a different route?. I'm thinking of the practicalities here. I think that you'd be better building a mobile workshop/kitchen area and then towing the Healey behind on a trailer. The reality is that the chassis is far too short and way too high up in the air to accomodate anything like practicality, you might as well hook the Healey up to a LWB Transit flatbed without the hassle and associated deplorable MPG to achieve what? just to say that they came from the same era? I don't get it My money would be on a workshop that could service the Healey, stack the tyres and the tent and equally importantly service the crew when it's p***ing down with rain at some windswept racetrack with a kettle and cooker - that way you're playing to the strengths of the Goddess, namely its a powerhouse with all of the attendent power take off's/generators/compressors etc. Cripes maybe you could have a revenue stream providing compressors and workshop facilities to the other racing fraternity who aren't so fortunate? think about it...they could chip in to have you there for their racing mishaps! It would certainly pay for the fuel! Tow the Healey behind - you've got bags of torque and build a period mobile workshop with all the bits and serve tea and toast out of the front cabin- Goodwood would welcome you with open arms!

Carsie, You can get complete period mobile workshops on the Bedford chassis but they look a bit 'Army' for me. As for towing, the 4.9-litre engine produces 110bhp and 120 ft lbs and will not hold 45mph on an up grade. It is 6:1 compression ratio though so a bit of a head skim might release a bit more ooomph. Otherwise it's see if the Chevy will fit easily or its the Bedford 330 unturboed diesel @ 98bhp at about 40mph flat out Cheers, Ian

I wish. The 'thing ' above under the front bumper which has pipes going to both the sump extension and back to the pump is a heat exchanger. When the Goddess is stationary but pumping at high speed it cools the oil by flowing water through from the tank or whatever river or pond it's pumping from. Sadly I won't need it but that's some more weight removed ;D Once again love this '50's engineering.

You know when you've had a scab, a BIG scab and your Mum has told you that you should not pick it but you reckon that that corner will come up and then you end up picking the whole bloody thing off. That's what it's been like with the Goddess this weekend First thing first, more rot has been discovered meaning I took all the side stuff off. Back panels have to go as well to get to the rear tank bolts Useful side locker has to go as well. It was storing all my scrap ally strip but some scrote has had a go at the gate padlock so moving the ally seemed prudent. This is the sort of wood you want to see. Means the rear cab locker can be kept. This is what I found on the right side which means the lockers is toast B@st@rd rot After two hours with a sabre saw and the wrecking bar the rear wheel arches are off Power take-off props off as well I might just stick some Mickey Thompsons on the back and drag race this ;D

Just the big water tank to come off and you'll be nearly ready to rebuild I'm guessing.

KinEll Ian, been keeping this quiet, shame you never mentioned this, my mates got Bedford flatbed petrol truck on his farm, could have saved you a few weeks of dismantling, Just thinking about the PTO, if you keep it you can run a really steep ramp, and use the PTO to power winch or even a seesaw ramp, controlled by a hydraulic cylinder linked hydraulicly end to end and a control valve in the middle, so it acts as a big damper that you can control the rate of rise and fall Ian

Ian, Normal Bedfords don't finally produce a 6/8 seater, sleeper cab. I haven't mentioned this in the OTHER PLACE as it's not much of a V8 - yet! Also dismantling is FUN. I'm off to the Great Dorset Steam Fair on Thursday to buy some really big spanners ;D Cheers, The Other Ian

A bit stalled at the moment. I'm waiting for a local farmer to come and lift the tank off and as it's a nearly free (couple of pints) job I have to wait on him. I have cured the stuck brakes by a couple of turns round the field and have sorted out the local kids turning it into an unofficial clubroom by threatening to break their fingers but I did speak with the parents first. JOY! I've decided to partially rebuild the cab and rear locker using an aluminium building system www.paletti-profilsysteme.de we use at work which is not only light, strong and rust-proof but comes with a panelling option as well. A lot of the structural but rotten wood is inch and a half so I'm going to try and use their 40mm stuff. Other ongoing projects are the engine and box replacement and I'm torn between getting the units from a later Bedford TK or using my spare 350 Chevy. The Bedford stuff should be bolt-in replacement but whatever it is it must do 60mph. I can't be arsed with artics overtaking me at glacial rates all the time. Let me be the one overtaking. Also I can probably use the TK axles and that will shed more weight and friction. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need 4x4x Trying to reduce the scarily high bed by sourcing some 16" wheels and considering what type of bed to use. Have been looking at used tilt and slide and tail-lifts on Flea-Bay.

It's a shame they seem to be hard to come by over there, because the Detroit 6v-92 would go quite nicely in that with the correct gears --Phil
