This weekend was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. We wired in the headlights and then spent two frustrating hours trying to trace bad earths. Sadly the perfectly working rear lights were now playing up also So while Dangerous wandered around with the continuity tester and got me in and out of the cab flicking switches and pressing pedals the G.A.K. got on with the the cunning plan to hide ramp slides. Perhaps it was not one of my better choices to use green UHWMPe but I did expect to use a covering flap. That plan needed modifying when it became obvious I'd need stays to hold open a top-hinged flap or the use of a bottom hinged flap would need buffers to protect the paintwork. More complications until Dangerous came up with the genius idea of using brush strip. The green problem The solution Finished, sealed, polished and rivetted. Note the Shrek Ears (as my grandson calls them ) corner marker lights The G.A.K. then got on with the cab top edge strip and we heard much hammering and muttering from up on high. I am reliably informed that the process could be called extreme planishing. I got on with fitting up the rear numberplate holder and of course nothing on a simple job went easily. The new old-skool black and white numberplate was too wide. The numberplate perspex was considered too stained to re-use so I did a bit of dumpster diving here and found this (with the protective film on) Nearly finished Onwards & upwards

I may have missed it in the preceding 51 pages, but what material did you use for the tray cover hoops?
Planning on building myself a caravan/trailer, and was trying to decide whether 50x6mm aluminium flats were strong enough for a frame.

As it's on display it needed to be a bit 'prettier' than galvanised. I'd have liked to use aluminium but had concerns that the heavy duty PVC tilt would have been a bit much for ally tube.

the ramp slides look awesome! with the alloy trim, black brushes and just a hint of something long and galv/alloy inside, kinda looks like a ladder would pull out. heritage nod.

I know there 'aint no party like an S-Club Party' but I had to have a Steps party on my ownsome as Dangerous' bad leg is really bad again and the G.A.K.was busy. So I started my Steps party by, as you can imagine, rebuilding the steps. This meant hours of polishing the step plates and the cab kick panels then reassembling the steps I had to trim down the old kick plates as we've decided to use longer finishing strips down the door edges. For my birthday SWMBO got me a spiffy reciprocating saw that was no doubt intended for herculean pruning tasks in the garden but turned to be rather good at trimming ally sheet. Next was attaching the step with the old coach bolts and fitting the kick plate This is becoming increasingly annoying and I may have to resort to an old, old aerospace trick of chopping off the screw/bolt heads and gluing them in. Painted the tow eyes/bumper brackets and then realised this. More bl00dy rectification work. Posidrive/Phillips were invented/developed in 1933 but not used on Bedfords until later than the Goddess build. Now I must introduce you to that most esoteric pursuits of Goddess Math 101 as we today were supposed to get her to the stage I could drive her round the estate to the weighbridge. Lack of staff and a third hand scuppered that so I get to worry for the next two weeks as next Sunday I've got to be at Gurston for the 300th meeting. Starting at the beginning; to avoid an HGV debacle the whole thing with me, SWMBO, the dog, the Healey, tools and 27 gallons of Mr. BP's cheapest must be under 7500 kilos. The original unloaded weight below This equates to 5182 kilos. I reckon with all the wood, ally plate, pump and tank we probably removed 1500 kilos which would give approx. 3700 kilos as a chassis cab. Add-in 2500 kilos for sub-bed, bed, spare wheel and carrier, skirts and hydraulics and we're back up to 6200 kilos. The Healey in touring trim weighs in at 1050 kilos so that's back to 7250 kilos and 27 gallons adds another 75 kilos. The inevitable conclusion is that me, SWMBO and the dog need to diet To top off the good news this week VOSA have decreed that unloaded I don't need an MOT but loaded I do. As a fire engine all the fire-fighting apparatus and water are equipment and not load. BUM

Time to mount a water turret to the top of the Healey? As long as it's pointed rear wards, a bit of extra boost for uphill travelling..

How do you want to lose the weight?? Swiss cheesing is a hell of a way to lose weight, or are you looking at reducing what stuff you carry, or lighter versions of what you have. PS, have you had any PMs from me??

I don't want to come up with any cunning schemes until I can get it weighed. Got the PMs but need to wait to get back to work to run the numbers. You got an idea of the likely centres?

Guys, thanks for the input but we'd still be overweight. However a couple of friends would like to discuss your ideas with you

This thread continues to amaze and delight in equal measure!
Fantastic work, it's coming on magnificently.
Will you run without the tilt on sunny days? Almost seems a shame to cover the Healy up...?
