The W194 Gullwing referred to in the Oz article had an alloy body and the body seized by German Customs and destroyed in Germany looks to be glassfibre so I think we can safely assume they are not the same. Also the glassfibre body looked to be fitted on a modern chassis but the Sleeping Beauties article talks of a replica chrome-moly chassis. I think the trick here is to never take your W194 replica to Germany.

Yeah, I'd put my vote in for yours too. As for the Gullwing, I think (without rereading) it says that Mercedes ordered the company that built it to dismantle it, so that would explain the jeans. Either way, it's a sad thing to see. I'd love a Gullwing... *stares off into the distance*

even though I am big style up for the Green Goddess, I think a Healey powered FG would be quite cool. Spent time in both of them so and I reckon there is potential.

The day started quite strangely as on the way to the unit I nearly got wiped out twice by pensioners driving different cars but wearing the same vile trilby hat. One was a driving a Micra and the other an XJ but both cars had panel damage (as far as I could see) on every surface apart from the roof. Beware the senior citizen in a trilby with wingnut ears! Otherwise I was quite happy that as a problem that had been bugging me for a month was successfully resolved. I'd managed to lose the driver's side step, the step kick panels, the step edges with the superb patina and the small plate that I was going to use for my personal HazMat signs. Luckily my addled brain fired enough relevant synapses to suggest I search the trailer used after the last industrial unit move. Some tentative signs. Please feel free to suggest others. Moving on, Dangerous traced all the electrical feeds to the back of the truck and permanently mounted the hydraulics control box to just inside the cab on the the nearside steps. Meanwhile the GAK and I decided that we would cut the holes in the back panel for the lights, the numberplate panel and some spiffing foot steps to allow mounting the back easier. I had planned to get the panel waterjet cut but in the end decided that that was not "The Way of Retro Rides". Spiffing step Two in the rear panel and one either side in the middle of the side panels and even a shortarse like myself can use them Rear panel put up for a mega light arrangement discussion/constructive argument Ready for the off I had to go and get some more appropriately sized steel rings both for marking up the holes and to use as bezels. Luckily we use loads at work but I will have to pay for them on Monday. Meanwhile Dangerous and the GAK put up the tilt bows and side stays for a trial fitting of the tilt as it hasn't been out of its wrapping for 18 months. You can see the results below but our consensus is that we need to get some zips at the back as well as the front so it will go back to the cover company next week. You get a bit of an idea of the size with the tilt on! Hand cut holes to the exacting standards of "The Way of Retro Rides" Flatting off the sharp edges of the new bevel rings on the surface grinder The result and then they thought it was all over.....and it was. Three rechargeable batteries for the jigsaw and none of them would hold a charge. Sigh! More gripping tales of geriatric dodging next week.

Is the cover going to be plain red or are you matching the Healey? Also, not sure what the hazmat signs are for, but this seemed possibly appropriate..

As for 'amusing' HazMat signs it won't always be carrying the Healey ....and it's my warped sense of humour Love the laser beam sharks

I had a little sign like that when I was younger. It went, "If you notice this notice you'll notice this notice is not worth noticing." I had another which said, "save trees, eat a beaver." I was a strange child...

firstly, sterling work! secondly, this... The day started quite strangely as on the way to the unit I nearly got wiped out twice by pensioners driving different cars but wearing the same vile trilby hat. One was a driving a Micra and the other an XJ but both cars had panel damage (as far as I could see) on every surface apart from the roof. Beware the senior citizen in a trilby with wingnut ears! was following a very elderly man in a 54 plate micra yesterday, also had a plaid trilby (perhaps they are cousins?) i was in actual genuine awe at his driving. aside from the forgiveable 20mph everywhere and dabbing the brakes at any sign of trouble (sparrows, gusts of wind, heart arrhythmia) he would also alarmingly drift to the middle of the road as if the white lines were the slot in a scalextrix. he would stay there for a couple hundred yards, then drift back! hand on heart truth one of the repeat drifts coincided with oncoming traffic who literally mounted the kerb to avoid. impressive and baffling in equal measures !

I reckon some old people do it on purpose you know, just to scare the curse word out of everyone else. I know I plan to when I'm an octogenarian.
