New project arrived the other day, 1980 Mk5 cortina 2.0 GL. taxed and mot'd with all the parts coming to put the car ready for proper every day use (have a family and it will take the strain of my Red Crusader). Used to be owned by a friend of mine who sold it back in 2007. at that time it was mint!!! had shed loads of money thrown at it, engine rebuild, gearbox done, axle done, poly bushed, vernier pulley H&H distributor, 380 pound springs, painted inside and out etc. then the guy who I got it off replaced the bumpers with round bar, stripped the interior out, fitted an ashley manifold and system, bucket seats and painted it satin black after taking the vinyl roof off. Plan is to return the car to a trimmed state, replace the bumpers, put the chrome back on as it should be with a view to repainting in its original signal yellow paint and refitting the vinyl roof possibly. should be taking it to the gathering in august with my red Crusader with a bit of luck. more pictures to follow as work progresses. Opinions gentlemen please. Frankie

cool project... and looks like you'll do it some good, something the previous owner did not... looks hideous in black... and why replace great looking chrome with horibble round bar?

That really tiny rear spoiler was promptly removed as soon as was possible and deposited in disgust in the boot! I have since found out that it was from a Nissan Primera! there was a fair few inches not covered on the boot by the spoiler! way way way to narrow and way way way to crappy to look at. boot has now been put right, badges put back to silver. will have another look and see what else can be done before the rest of the trim arrives. then save and get ready for the respray. Car will be being used in the mean time untill then. As it will probably be very difficult to find the original GL mouldings for the side of the car, I was thinking of prehaps going MK4 Cortina S style striping? with the black back panel?? If they are with the spares then the original mouldings will be going back on. what do you lot think of the S style stripe idea? Frankie

Like the sound of the S type styling think that would look really good. Glad the spoiler has gone, truly shocking

Good work, the PO deserves a good sound kicking for his appalling efforts. That spoiler was a disgrace to humanity!

The exterior is perfectly "Liveable", the wibblepoo bumpers are hardly going to damage your street cred BUT that interior is a fuggin abortion!!! How some fuckweasel could rip out one of Fords finest and leave, what appears to be, cat turd in its place is beyond me. The bloke needs kneecapping.

That looks like a superb base for a project, brilliant...! That is ULTRA rare in Signal Yellow (if that is the original colour) as most folks went for the more sober tones so it simply has to go back to banana!!! As for the 'S' vibe, go for it... With a mild lowering on some nice 4-spoke Ford rims it will be pretty much perfect...!!! Go on sir...

Decided in my wisdom as I have just found out that the car was laquered after the satin black went on, to try and t cut a small area of the car (nothing to loose as its going to get painted) and low and behold, it came up effing shiny!!! carried on and did the osr door. going to do more later. will post piccies at the week end. got all the interior trim for it now, and a new vinyl roof. so work should be carrying on good at the week end.

So so sooo pleased to scroll down the pics and see the spoiler gone, good move. Looks a very good motor to start a project on and the plans sound good.
Don't do banana but even I can see that a tina could pull it of, especially with the stripes and black back panel. Crack on.

Found a picture of a similar car still in its yellow with the vinyl roof exactly the same as this one looked but with out the minilights. and its not a ghia. Had a play with photoshop to see what I could do with the black while I save for the respray. still learning with the photoshop so sorry if its a bit curse word, but you get the idea of what I was trying to do Frankie
