Ti's are nice but still quite rare. Lotus's are very rare and to be treasured, so out of reach really. Other engine swaps have been done to lower spec ones such as VX twinks and red tops etc, but
As Hillman became Chrysler became Talbot became Peugeot-Talbot bacame Peugeot, how about trying to get an Mi16 engine on throttle bodies in? Must be a bit harder work than a Pug205 Mi16, but would be a stonking drive what with the RWD.
I reckon it might be a winner that combination. Does anyone know of an attempt at that combo? Would even work almost as well in an Avenger to.

Installing that engine longways is not common, must be a good reason why not as it’s a quality motor. Word is that LDV vans used the Pug 1.9 diesel engine (which has very similar block architecture and bellhousing pattern) in a longways installation for a while though and they have a bellhousing which mates these engines to a Rover 77mm gearbox. Maybe that’s possible.
Also those horrific FSO Caro trucks used the pug 1.9 diesel installed longways, christ knows what gearbox arrangement they have though, probably a ‘sturmey archer’ 3-speed.

At least I've got people thinking now. So maybe, Mi16, Rover/LDV box, do we go emerald injection/ignition and ITBs, or stick it on bike carbs? I'd say go the whole hot with the mapable injection.

Somebody suggested this exact same thing on the ASOC forum a week or so ago.
It sounds like a good idea to me, the bits are available and theres a good cheap Avenger top hat on E-bay. Go do it!

I would love to go for it, but don't have the room, equpment, money or skill. just offerering the usual fantasy conversion project up for those with the time, money and knowledge.
It just seems the logical project.

Great idea! Loads of Eastern motors use that 1.9 Diesel Pug lump, and if what Mr_B says works, you've got quite a choice of 'boxes. Them Tata things use the Pug diesel, but I'm not sure which way they're mounted. Remember the Mahindra jeep?! Those had a Pug unit too. The gearboxes on them could be made of toffee though . Mi16 4wd would be a lark!!! Maybe an LDV 'box would be the best one to go for - they'd be built with plenty of mileage in mind.

I'm sure there must be some sort of Peugeot multi-valve screamer which can used in a RWD configuration, as IIRC the1/4-mile oval National Hot Rods used (still use?) them as an alternative to Vauxhall.

There seems to be a lot of those about with knackered gearboxes though. Might be a better idea to try to get it mounted to a ford box rather than a talbot one though as the talbot one might struggle with the power/torque. I think one reason why the engine swap is not so common into a RWD is that the peugeot transverse engines sit at quit a steep incline towards the bulkhead and there are no suitable places for engine mounts. The main mount is on the front of the engine and would need to mount to the slam panel. There might also be a struggle in getting either the inlet or exhaust manifolds clear of the inner wing. Definetely worth ago though. I have been looking at mounting a pug diesel into a cortina as an economical retro daily driver. Should get similar performance to a standard 2.0 pinto and close to 50mpg:)

Actually there was the Mi16, the Mi16 4wd, and the T16 (WRC pikes peak etc) car. but it was designed as 4WD with a transverse engine.
