Been spending too much time up the workshop this week. Got most of the rot cut out of the n/s though, but theres not a lot of car left. ;D By the time i got this far i was crying for my mummy. Theres quite a lot of strengthening behind the B pillar which will need to be put back before the outer goes on. And this is how much floor i've had to cut out. I've been down this morning and welded the inner sill in. Now i've got to make up all those box sections behind the B pillar and weld the outer sill on, then i can get on with the repairs to the bottom of the A pillar and the floorpan then i can start on the other side. At least the o/s looks in better shape. I'm glad i decieded to do the hardest part first.

i find all old cars are the same, once you start cutting you find the whole lot needs removing to do the job properly! :/

Just think what a legend you are gonna feel like when you've welded that lot up, put on 5 coats of zinc primer and top coat and sloshed gallons of waxoyl through those bad boys, you'll deliberately rag through puddles just cos you can. Keep up the outstanding work.

Thanks for the encoragment dudes At first i was just gonna patch it up and stick a mot on it and i probably could have got away with it, but i want this car to be pretty strong underneath if i'm gonna put a 2 litre in it so i thought i might as well go for it. Considering it had a few months mot on it when i bought it off nick I can only assume that whoever took it for its last mot must have wrapped a tenner round the prop. The N/S has had a repair panel welded over it at some time, but none of the rust underneath has been cut away so thats why its got so bad i guess. I still cant make my mind up what to do about the visible bodywork though. Really it needs new wings but i cant bear to get rid of all the little dents where 30 years worth of mechanics have leaned over the engine bay. You cant buy that kind of charecter. Does anyone know if you can get repair sections for around the headlights? It'd save me stumping up £100 each for wings too. Another thing I'm having second thought on is smoothing the bodywork out. When i first got it i did this photoshop which has been my plan untill now But know i'm starting to feel guilty about smoothing out something as original as this. Is it criminal to do it or not, i mean there not exactly rare are they?

Which headlight repair sections are you after? Do you mean the bit directly behind the headlights. I might have a set of them, I will check and see cant remember if they are for square or round lights though.

The bits i'm after are the actual front part of the wing around the headlight. I've got a new front panel with the headlight mountings in it. Thanks for the offer though I think i might just as well get a pair of fibreglass wings once i've got some spare cash. I aint paying £150 each for pattern ones that will need chopping to bits just to fit . Anyway, I've made a bit of progress today. I'm starting to see light at the end of tunnel Thats the new inner sill partly welded in ready for seam welding when i can handle the boredom This is the strengthening I had to make up for the bottom of the B pillars. I actually did this twice cos i wasnt happy with first attempt. I'm actually quite gutted about having all the hard work covered up where no one will see it untill the sills rot out again in ten years time. If anything the car should be stronger now than when it left the factory as this box section origanaly ended halfway down the sill but i've carried it right up to the crossmember now. And heres the new outer all trimmed up ready for welding once the insides all rust proofed. Just a few repairs to the floorpan now and i can start on the O/S. Hopefully theres a lot less work in that side ;D
