Model: SD1 Vitesse
Year: 1986
Mileage: 111k
Tax: Nov 2010
MOT: June 2011
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Price: £1500
The decision has been made, the Vitesse is regretfully up for sale as I've decided I want to concentrate on the TVR for the time being. Flew through the MOT with a couple of minor advisories - a track rod end and some play in a lower ball joint. I've got a new track rod end to fit and if I get time I'll source a suspension arm too.
So the good bits first. It's got 11 months MOT and 5 months tax. It's had a sunstantial amount of welding to make the shell solid (new OEM sill, repairs to boot floor, rear quarters, floorpan, b pillars etc). It's got 4 nearly new decent tyres (Falkens on the front and Firestone on the back IIRC). The exhaust is entirely stainless from the manifolds back. I've also replaced the following parts with new items (unless otherwise stated):
- Polybushed front suspension (ARB ends & mounts & lower arm mounts)
- Polybushed rear trailing arms (rear mount only)
- Polybushed gear change remote (more precise change)
- Polybushed gearbox buffer mount
- New trailing arms (and bushes)
- New rear damper bushes
- Gaz adjustable rear dampers (2nd hand as transferred over from my old car) and new standard springs
- Rear brakes (cylinders, shoes & pipes)
- Leda adjustable front struts (2nd hand but very rare and gives a firm ride)
- Front brake pads (inc new pins, retainers and copper pipes)
- Plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm
- Ignition module
- ECU (2nd hand)
- AFM (2nd hand)
- Coil (2nd hand)
- Fuel pump
- Fuel, air & oil filters
- ECU temp sensor
- Oil pressure switch
- Oil pressure gauge sender
- Rocker cover breather filter (the small one)
- Front tinted windscreen (2nd hand but with new chrome trim)
- Goodridge stainless steel braided brake hoses all round (5 in total)
- FSE fuel pressure regulator
- New locks
There's probably other things too, and numerous repairs to what's already on there - replacing wires, connectors, missing bolts etc as required. If it looked dodgy it got replaced!
To do the welding the entire interior was stripped out so I took the opportunity to clean all the little rust spots off the floor (and repair where necessary) and then it was all painted in silver hammerite to keep it protected.
So now the not-so-good bits. The headlining board needs replacing as it's sagging and discoloured, but you can buy these new with matching cloth through the SD1 Club. Couple of rips in the drivers seat squab. Not all the e/w work (drivers does tho!) and e/m currently not working. Exterior is tatty - there's a few scracthes around the body, a couple of small dents on the roof, a few rust scabs - ideally it needs a respray. However all 4 arches are solid, both front wings look new and there's 2 new sills (the previous owner replaced one already). So all aesthetical - you could happily drive the car round as is for years to come!
The car is an originally a Twin Plenum but due to numerous problems this was removed in favour of the more reliable single plenum system. I did a lot of work on the EFi system, along with the plenum, so I'm pleased to say it all works perfectly with most of the compenents replaced and all of them checked and re-checked to ensure reliability.
I've been rebuilding the original plenum but it's not quite ready to be refitted, so I'm currently offering the car as is, but the original plenum (and associated gubbins) will be available to go with the car for an additional price.
The gearbox is a bit whiney in the lower gears, but may just need a fresh oil change. I do have a spare box too that I will include with the car if required though - I acquired it cheap to keep as a spare some time ago but won't need it when the Vitesse goes! I don't think it's any worse than my previous SD1 'box to be honest, and it selects all gears very smoothly.
I think that's everything. I've put so much info on as I don't want to mislead people - don't expect a mint Vitesse, but what you will get is a useable car with a lot of work done on it that can used as a rolling restoration or a cheap road into 190bhp SD1 ownership [] There's a few Vitesse about at the moment - ranging from knackered £800 jobbies with no MOT to £5k+ restorations so I think £1500 is a very reasonable price for something with so much MOT/tax, in fact you'd be hard push to find a cheaper road going Vitesse. And I've certainly spent a lot more getting it uptogether!
I'll also include a few spares with the car if required to help the new owner out with any future issues.
Any questions, please ask on here or drop me a PM. I'm happy to show people round the car, and it's still insured so we can go out for a test drive.
Cheers
