I'm trying to wire these Nissan clocks into my Ford, Its all sorted but I'm trying to make it so that they light up when I put my lights on. I can see there are a few parts of the circuit that say ILL+ next to them, the three brown/red circle bits are bulbs and the ILL+ bits seem to correspond with these, obviously where the two horizontal and one vertical rectangular holes are they are plugs with wires. How will I do it? I guess Ill have to find the wire on the back of my light switch that goes live when I switch them on and then splice it into a lot of sections on the back of the board? What would I do, see where the ILL+ bit goes into each plug and fit a wire that is then spliced into the live light switch? Thanks a lot in advance, I'm one hella confused chap. Heres a pic of the back of the board ![](http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c33/Daveyboy20/DSC02319.jpg)

I'd try an earth on the bottom middle one on the left most socket on the left hand side and the live on the top middle one on the rightmost socket on the right hand side and see what happens

So for the live on the right - just take a wire from it and scotch lock it to the live wire on the switch and just take a wire to earth on body somewhere from the left one? ta dude

You should have a wire already in the vicinity to do that - the original one that lit up the original clocks. Connect that to right plug top row, 3rd from the right. Earth goes to left plug bottom row, second from the left - but if everything else already works, your earth should already be in place. If they still don't work, the illumination circuit looks a bit burnt in places.

I have an earth for the actual speedo and rev counter etc.. Will the lights work off that earth? Reckon I just try the live to the right plug top row, 3rd from the right and see if that works? thanks guys

your illumintion wire is grey/yellow & any brown is earth.

Brill cheers dude, cheers guys, I'm gonna tackle this at the weekend so hopefully Ill have an illuminated dash! Just gotta sort out a template now. Can anyone think of a reliable way of doing it? I've cut a piece of cardboard to the shape of my dash and Ive cut accurate holes for my extra gauges on the upper left side (where the stereo would be) however I need to accurately measure and cut holes in it for the clocks and also my heater controls, I'm sure Ill work it out like but if anyone has a foolproof idea?

No luck there. I wired the right plug top row, 3rd from the right straight to the yellow and grey wire and wired left plug bottom row, second from the left straight to the earth on the stalk. No illumination ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) can't continue with making the dash till the lights work or Ill be stripping it all back out again.... I HATE electrics with a passion, give me a seized rusty bolt any day over this curse word.

Take a deeep breath, find some paper and pen, and trace out all the circuits, all the tracks are visible so it should be straightforward.
Once you've done that, scan it or take a photo, post it here, and me or someone here will help...
you should be able to get some wire and replace the missing circuits with some faffing around...

i said "top middle one on the rightmost socket on the right hand side" which is second from the right on the right hand side not third.
i guess could have been because they look like seperate sockets on the clocks but are single plugs with a gap in the middle?

Oops, yeah don't worry anyway, wouldnt blame anyone as Id only be guessing myself if I didnt ask!! I was annoyed about yet another day of not getting anywhere (and I do hate electrics - had to do shed loads for the build too!!!) But yeah, there are three plugs with gaps in - my mistake, could I be a MAHOOSIVE pain and ask if someone could do a very hi-tech 'MS paint' circle of truth around the one they reckon it might be?? I can get another set of clocks from a breaker easy enough but do you reckon I could solder a wire to bridge over the gap thats burnt out on the illumination circuit? I don't really understant what sort of material it is to be honest, its on some wierd sheet... Bloomin electrics

Right, had the gunson circuit tester thingy on the go, I've defo got the live from the sidelights and Ive wired it in to the one that says ILL+ third tab from the right on the right most socket, when its plugged in here and the lights are turned on, I have 12v at all the bulbs but they still don't work. I think it may be an earthing problem, only I'm still unsure how to go about it can anyone shed any light on the situation so to speak? My mate soldered up the burnt bit on the circuit and tested it for continuity and its all good

Looks like earth is middle socket, bottom section, middle right.
put an indicator bulb or similar in series when you're testing, then you won't fry anything, it'll just light up bright if there's a short.
So.... supply to bulb, bulb to ill+, earth to earth it'll probably light dimly if it's working, and the dash lights should light up...

Dave how how you not achieve this yet, unscrew the +drive above the printed letters 35F00 add to this an earth line, from looking that appears to be the earth cuircit for the dash lighting.
Add your supply to ILL position as dicussed before.
That'll illuminate the dash,
Alternativly grab a multimeter, con check between ILL and the other points on the plug and somewhere you will have a circit path. If this is confusing you still ring me later tonight (after 7 is good.)

The earth is the copper bit above 3500 legend. The positive for lights is the track marked ill. Get a battery, some lengths of wire and connect to these points. Once you have verified the lights work, (you have got bulbs in? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ??) you can actually scrape the top layer off most flexi circuit boards, with sharp knife edge, and get your man to solder some flying leads on. Where are you?

So, when I was at school I had an irrational fear of Maths.. I would get all worked up before I even looked at a question and at the extreme I actually ran away from my maths GCSE! I was in the queue to go in and looked around and everyone had protractors and all sorts of clever kit, I had a pencil that was no bigger than the sharpener that had created it and I turned and ran, all the way down the hill, into a field, all the way to the end of the field and hid under a bush until aboiut 3 hours later the deputy head found me.... This brings me onto electrics..... I hate them and have always hated them and I don't know why! I managed to teach myself a fair bit when I was converting my Capri to Nissan power, also learned a lot from people on here and so on... thought I may be getting the hang of it.... but not really! Hence why I still havent sorted my illumination!!! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Cheers Roy I shall fit an earth to the 35f00 bit and see what happens. My live goes to ILL+ is that right? rather than just ILL. I presume thats right. I'll let you kniow how that goes! Sidepop, I have bulbs in yeah ;D Think I've mostly done it right... we'll see eh? I'll update this thread with either an interior full of smoke or an illuminated dash ;D
