Well, I've infected a mate. He's moved from being a sensible 1 car owning person to now having three. Rover 218D as a daily hack, his prized MX5 weekend toy and now this little beauty. Shows that bargains are still to be had. 1967 Herald 12/50 saloon 4 owners nice original unmlested car with only a couple of bits of blistery bodywork, nice original pale blue interior, 12 months MOT £450. It was £400 but for an extra £50 my mate who was selling it threw in a bit of welding (the usual outriggers issue) and an oil & filter change (as they had a filter in stock for it). My mate who was selling it runs a garage and got the car in via the trade. It was p-ex'ed at a Car Supermarket against a newish Rover 25 and the Car Supermarket place just scrapped it! How about that! Scrap man luckily saved it on one side and it made its way out and back on the road. My house, obviously, yank scrappers in the back ground give that away LOL. So he's just left here in it to go home and wash & polish it. We did an experimental corner with G6 and it came up lovely. Any Triumph experts in the house recognise the colour? I thnk its Valencia blue? Need to order some touch up paint for him.

Thats stunning! Who in their right mind would junk that? Just the kind of no brainer i'd expect from one of those car supermarkets though, wonder how many classics we've lost to that sort of thing? Really glad it got saved, I'm sure your newly converted mate will have a blast owning it ;D Sorry, cant help on the paint question

G6 = an older formulation of Farecla rubbing compound which is ideal for cellulose paint. I had half a tub left and since I use COB and am going 2 pack I won't use it again so he might as well have it (I use G3 Advanced and G10 finishing liquid now). Uber T-Cut if you like! street, back in the day there used to be a small Fiat dealer who made their money selling you a £5000 Uno with £100 worth of extras as a special edition for £6500. Minimum £500 part ex even if its got no MOT and our "special no deposit finance". Right crooks. Anyway there was a compound behind their place with all the trade ins and you'd weep to see it now. I tried to buy cars out of there a few times but they always refused as they were "trade disposal only". There were Minis, Beetles, Singer Vogues, Hillman Hunters, even an Mk2 Ford Consul. All driven in there as p-ex cars in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Vogue was the one I really wanted. There was a Mk2 Consul and a 100E Prefect as trade ins at the local Skoda dealer in the 80s. He wanted £100 for the Consul and £350 for the Prefect which was absolutely mint. I couldn;t stretch to £350 though and the Consul was too dear to insure for me at 17! We had the Herald up on the MOT ramp and you can see its had all new UJs and brake pipes and steering parts and stuff not so long ago. Obviously a well maintained car. I guess someone just got fed up spending money on repairs. Hope the 25's head gasket is OK for them! The little Triumph drives like a good one too. The motor is quiet as anything, no timing chain rattle, no tappet noise. No noticable end play either. I think the c. 70K on the clock could be genuine. My mate has already discovered the fact you have to leave good stpping distances with it - and if youdo some idiot drops into your gap "I didn't leave that gap for you, thats so I can stop!!!!" He's had the car 2 hours and already he's got the idea...

WOW. that's a great deal. I need a deal like that, I'd love a Herald / A40 / Anglia or something similar for a daily driver. Your mate did well! (For that budget all I can find locally is knackered Fiestas. ) I have learned previously that if you want to buy trade-ins from these "idiot-garages", turn up in overalls with grubby hands, and pretend you're looking for something cheap for a "customer". My old Cavalier was on a forecourt for £1,695, I got it for £1,000 that way!

A mate of my Dad's had a HB Viva SL90 he was going to let me have for a tenner... until he found out he could 'get' £1500 for it against an FSO 125P...

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
