Since they only make the type of spherical strut top mounts for my car that require alot of chopping around of the suspension turrets (which i don't fancy doing), i was considering making something very simular to this design: I'm thinking- You can get the spherical bearing cheap enough, so i could make a template and have a pair machined up. Question is- Ive no idea how strong these have to be, and thus what grade ally or type of steel I should be getting them made up in? Also, can anyone make sense of the jargon they use to grade the durability of bearings? And finally, does anyone have experience with having stuff like this fabricated? Is it going to cost me a kidney? Not a very interesting thread, appologies! But any help and advise appreciated as always

I would say yes, getting it machined will cost you a kidney. What might be another option is to take one for a Mk1/Mk2 Escort which can be bought for chips (compared to other models) and modify it to the size you need. The plate on that one up there is much smaller than my Escort ones so I reckon you'd be able cut it out of an Escort one. Mine are 5mm plated steel and the collar around the spherical bearing is about 2mm thick with a circlip holding it in.

i wouldent worry too much about what material you have them made from and how strong they need to be. Speak to whoever you want to get to male it and I'm sure they can advise you.
Its never cheap :/

Looks ideal. Just watch out for a bidding war, I think steel ones are only about £50 new from Rally Design.

I think Jonny69`s idea would be a better bet. If you have the facilities to make em yourself no problem but once you start paying people to fabricate things it soon mounts up. This bloke always has plenty for sale. Adjustable ones pretty cheap as well search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZmotor_sport100QQhtZ-1
