Chaps, does someone have anything better than an old hose pipe I can use to syphon fuel out of a petrol tank? I need it fairly urgent. Nottingham area, can collect... Cheers

If you don't mind waiting a while for it to drain pull the line off and let it drain into a bucket it worked well for mean when the pipe disintergrated anyway ;D

I've got quite a rubbish siphon pump with a hand-sqeezy-bulb-type affair on it. I used it to get the last dregs from the Bond's tank after I'd syphoned most of it using the hose method. It will however only work if there's a more-or-less direct route to the tank.
You're welcome to use it if you want, although I've found the hosepipe / gobfull of petrol method to be most effective.

go to your local caravan/boat place and buy one - should cost less than your petrol to collect.

Or, if you don't want a gobfull of petrol to haunt you all day:
Get 2 hoses, one to do the syphoning, and one that fits exactly inside it. Insert big tube into tank, and then push other hose inside it. put finger over smaller hose and pull it out steadily, but quickly - sorted.

Our college's race car just has a T-peice you can open on the fuel line with a quick release fitting onto it. Combined with an electric pump it makes for a very easy and clean way of draining the tank after/before races.
Alternatively just use quite a long length of hose so you've got loads of time to react and not get a mouthful, you only need to get it lower than the fuel tank, you don't actually need to get it to the end of the hose.

Bit of a late reply but i have an electric pump with a couple of fly leads/croc clips and a hose on each end - empties a tank quick and easy.
Let me know ASAP 'cos I'll need to fetch it from the farm.

another way to avoid mouthful is to prefill the pipe with petrol (from a can) before lowering it .
petrol in the mouth doesnt taste so bad after you've done it enough, no worse than strong whisky or something.

only just noticed this I've got a 12v diesel pump on a plate if thats any good dude,shame it's not an amazon you are playing with cos theres a drain plug in the bottom of the tank

I don't know what the set-up is on your car, but would you be able to hook up the fuel pump to a 12v supply and empty the tank that way?
I'll bring the siphon pump with me tomorrow but it'll be a long, laborious job to empty more than a few litres with it I reckon!

Old EFi pump with long leads and crocodile clips, garden hose on the big inlet side, some fuel hose on the outlet side to aim into the can, if the filler kneck has an anti syphon trao i cut the hose under the floor (supply not the return) put the small bore outlet pipe on the tank side of the pipe reverse the wires on the battery and do it that way, can empty a full tank in 20 mins if you keep changing the cans or pump it direct into another vehicval ;D I keep one gaffa taped to a jerry can  |

Karma got him though, turns out he drained the tank of a diesel engined vehicle into his petrol engined one. ;D |

Cheers for the suggestions and offers. I believe Benzboy and LizzardKing both have something for me to try coming to the Lime in the AM.  No "oops" moment, I just have a Carlton with £65 worth of fresh unleaded looking like its being weighed in on Monday and I'm trying to salvage what I can! |
