Righty ho,
I have no carpet in my car at the moment and the floor very grubby, greasy and just generally a bit a naff. There's a fair bit of oil and grime on it.
But I want to clean. So how? I was thinking gunk, but that needs water to rinse it off and my concern is that I won't be able to get ALL of the water out and it'll just get trapped in when I put carpets in etc.
I was thinking getting some cat litter or something and try to soak up all the grime and stuff, plus maybe a bit of brake and clutch cleaner or something?
Any ideas?

I was going to suggest TFR with some water and a good rinse...then a good towel dry (rags) but if you're against the whole water thing here is my suggestion (tried, tested, proven and A52 recommended ) Wipe everything down with lots of newspaper to soak up any oil, mess that is there....use the newspaper to get it as dry & clean as possible. It's actually quite effective. Then go to town with a pack of baby wipes. Seriously. They are amazing at cleaning...oil, dirt, everything! I usually pick up about 4 packs from the supermarket for £3.00 and keep a pack in each car, they are invaluable once you get used to having them around. They'll make a good job of cleaning the floor once you've given it a once over with the newspaper.

I very much enjoy having a pack of baby wipes in each car, and every room of the house, and most of our bags too.
I can be quirte messy and so can my offspring.

I'm very much in the camp of "you don't need kids to reap the benefits of baby wipes" and will continue on this path indefinitely I hope.

I have to agree with that.. swap your household toilet rolls for baby wipes too - marvelous!! they are also excellent for cleaning of silicone as it doesnt stick to them anywhere near a smuch as anything else.. they should rebrand them soon, man wipes, soft n kind yet great for anything!! lol anyways, back on topic.. surely using cat litter woudl generate just a smuch mess, dust instead.. I'd go rags, wipes route myself but if its reall really bad, then water and muc off,/brake cleaner etc.. then soak it all up again (unless you got any handy drain plugs in the body floor)

The Imp floor does have some handy drain plugs in the footwells.
I'd use gunk/TFR and water TBH - it doesn't look like it's going to rain in Cardiff between tomorrow and next Wednesday, giving it a good chance to dry out. Just don't put carpet in it until it's properly dry.

The previous owner of the E-type we just got in work decided it would be a good idea to use non drying waxoil on the INTERIOR floor! and then mush the mats into it! I used autoglym tar and glue remover, put the bungs in the floor and poured a puddle of it in, left it for a bit and then drained it out and then used rags to scrub it off, worked well. Was a bit trickier on the bottom of the mats but still worked

if it's am imp floor try wd40 to get the tar softened, or paraffin, then use thinners or panel wipe to get the oily residue off, wipe clean using loads of paper towel or rags

The best thing I've found for awkward cleaning jobs is the wife ;D I've tried this but the oil makes her hair go all matted and tangled and it's quite difficult to bend her around enough to get in the corners

you need a bendier wife, I find putting her in the stocks for half an hour a day keeps her supple. We use baby wipes for everything as well, marvelous things, could do with them twice as big though i think.

Luckily its a bad pic so you cant see she's in a schoolgirl outfit. I didn't build the bed, bought it from Indigo Furniture and yes the bloody thing did cost more than most of my project cars, comes with a 15 warranty though.
