Not my first car, not by a long shot, but certainly my favorite has to be this... ...obviously. Now I know I have a reputation for going through cars like Lindsay Lohan goes through re-hab clinics so you'll have to trust me when I say I don't think I'll ever part with it. I only sold it first time round as it was unfair to the car to leave it outside, and the chap who had it from me had good intentions for her. To have it back now is lucky, very lucky actually. It's like a lottery win to me! And as I'm now in a position to restore her via the magazine, her future is just that little bit more secure. I love that car, I love the noise it makes, I love driving it, I love the looks, I just love every inch of it. I don't think I'll ever part company with her. Then again, this is me we're talking about.... Chris

I've no idea what it is about 1st cars, but they just have so many memories connected to them, (and generally if it was retro you've put so many hours into keeping it going!) that it would be like loosing a limb to get rid of it. Plus I guess it helps if your 1st was something you actually wanted, rather than just transport (at the time my Dad asked why I wanted something that wouldn't work, instead of a "nice" nearly new Corsa!) I'll of had it 10yrs come November, and I'm still adding the memories to it So jealous, why did I sell mine?! If I'd kept it it would look a lot like yours does now! It was my first car in 1995, sold it in 1997 for a Mk3 Cavalier 1.6L. At the time that was a 'nicer' and far more expensive car... To add insult to injury, the 'mate' I sold it to crashed it twice, sold it on in a right state and it was scrapped soon after. RIP TGC 28R!

^^^sorry to hear that, its the number of stories from guys who wish they'd never given up on an old Ford that turned me into a "I'll never sell it" man! Shame as it looks lovely too, was the blue standard? Not sure I've ever seen one in that shade - I really like it, and its SWMBO's favourite colour too! (any reason to convince her to get a Ford rather than a Beetle! )

I only had my 1st car (Triumph Dolomite) about 2 years before selling it on. The potential of the car never really escaped from my mind though, which is why 12 years later, and supposedly wiser, I bought my Toledo. The 2 door body was the one I always wanted and I'm sure a lot of it is nostalgia for my 1st car. Sometimes a car just connects with you and it is 'the one'. It isn't necessarily the 1st though. The only car that my old man owned which he gets excited talking about is his Austin 1100 from the late 60's, before we came along. Tuned by Speedwell and fitted with a 1293cc engine etc. His face lights up when he talks about that. I would pay good money for one of those, it would say a thousand words to him.

When MOT'd the guy couldn't believe how solid it was underneath - never patched either, and it was 20 years old even then... It was Bermuda Blue which was a standard colour but I've only ever seen 'R' reg Mk2's that colour so I guess it was only available on the early ones?

I've sold my first car, a 1986 Corolla automatic to a friend three years ago when I moved to Finland. I spoke to him on the phone earlier this week and he told me he's still really happy with it. Great!

I've still got my first car, a mini I've had since I was 16 so almost 10 years now. Started as a tatty '89 998cc City E in black, standard apart from a white roof, but it has changed quite a bit since then going from my daily college run about to now being my evening/weekend toy. After a house jumped out at me (as they do! lol) in 2002 it had body restoration and full respray in black. Now with a 1340cc with Omega Pistons, Kent 286 cam, stage 3 head; alloy 4-pot calipers with vented/grooved discs, rollcage, rear beam and coil overs all round its evolved quite a bit over the years but to me its still the same car and I could not be parted from it. Despite the fact it's getting a little ratty around the edges again and not being used nearly half as much as it should be on a daily basis, its the "keeper" of my four cars. Having just driven across Germany to the IMM in Barveria and then around the lakes completing 2000miles in under 3weeks I know I could use it as my only car if needed. I could sell my Audi tommorrow but I'd miss the mini forever.

My first car... Before I bought it, this pic was taken around about the year 2000... 2005... 2007... 2009/2010... All the blue metal in the above pic is original, all the grey has been replaced. It's still my first car though, and I don't think I could sell it Soon to be back on the road, but it can't come soon enough...

I don't think I could be trusted with a car with flames! ha ;D Yes it did actually! heres how it looked a few days after it came home (I was 16, so spent 6 months fiddling and driving it around an airfield near by) I couldn't be trusted with a car with flames either - trust me! Good job it was only 1100cc of raw power, otherwise we'd both probably be on the scrapheap ;D

erm, Soulmate is spelt wrong..
anywhoo, I still have mine. Crashed, rusty and waiting for me to rebuild it after a dickhead in a camry hit me from behind, I'll never ever sell it and it'll rust in the ground before I part with it.

My first car was a 1969 Imp Californian, which I got just before I turned 16, still have. Unfortunately, it is still in the barn, in need of a fairly major restoration.
My second car is a 76 Imp saloon - which arrived just after I turned 17. Almost 6 years and 25,000 miles later it's still mine and still on the road.
As phoenixescort says, having a car that you want as your first rather than just transport makes it that bit more special - I certainly have no intention of selling either of mine at any stage.

A lot of the old Escort Populars came in that Blue, it was pretty common actually on the basic models.
