The Citroen AX GT....? I know the one in the forsale forum has gone, but i've been lusting over it ever since the advert went up - sadly i can't do anything till the rocco is MoT'ed and moved on... anyway a glance at autotrader seems to reveal a few kicking around for my kind of budget (sub-£500) with MoT and tax so it's no worry. are they any good? 85bhp sounds a little puny but it weighs b'gger all, are they nippy enough to be fun? to be honest since it's not much of a familymobile i'd probably dump the rear seat straight away and try and improve power to weight. what kind of tuning bits can you get? easy to work on? Are the GTis more complicated, or worth going for? it's one of those cars that just looks cool standard - maybe slightly lowered - so it's a shame a lot of the ones for sale are barried. oh and i had to share this advert - this might be a very nice car, but we'll never know as the advert can't be read by anyone apart from 12 year old girls!

cracking car. Doesn't deserve it's barry boy rep. 85 BHP is good enough as it weighs less than a single Rizzla paper. Handling is go-kart like. Bags and bags of fun for zip all cash. Does not respond well to bad styling but looks boss in track/rally trim. Especially in white. Treat it to a set of compomotives as they suit the shape. or some 106 rallye steels for the win. Don't botherr with the GTi. Extra complications for no extra go. GT500 no different to GT except in Europe where it came with twin 40's

Yo Pillock! Pity you missed my AX mate, but you are right in thinking that they are top motas's! 85 bhp don't sound a great deal but boy do they fly, when they are running right you can feel the 2nd choke open up & they go !!! ;D Revs like a lil demon too, easy 1st & 2nd gear spins in the damp, i don't know why i got rid of it!!!

cheers 104ZS could be the first non-german car i've ever owned! seriously tempted, especially by some 'needs loving' ones i've seen for less than £200. what kind of typical mot failures do they suffer from? anything to look out for if i go to look at one? keefy - fastback is still waiting to be uncovered from it's winter storage barn and rewired. that's really the only bit of work i don't want to undertake myself, once it's wired (mate's dad on the cheap) i can get an interior in it, lob some paint at it and drive it to bugjam! got a pair of 944 seats in my daughters bedroom (she learns to live with me lol) that i'm going to unpick and recover, dash top and new doors are with the car, it should MoT OK with minimal work as it's only done 100 miles since the last one, and been dry(ish) stored! 500tops - it was you car that set me off, but i'm in no position to buy a new car, only a replacement one. certainly looks the part though, hope it's gone to a good home!

my dad had one, great little car. slapped into a ditch and all sorts of abuse and it still kept on going. the build quality being total shoddy tagline isnt totally deserved. saying that the seat broke and had to weld it in place

Rust on the rear quarters beneath the pop out windows, rust behind the headlight on the inner wing area, dodgy french electric windas - pi55 poor quality, same goes for central locking. Most seem to smoke a bit on start up. Rear inner arches around the bump stop areas, standard bodykits that are falling off. Mk 1's up to 91 are my favs, old skool dash's etc, they remind me pretty much of my mates old 86 pug 205 gti even down to the sound of the door when it closes!! Was i mad to sell this: In favour of this?! answers on a postcard, care of the lunatic asylum!!

awesome cars, when they work. Great fun, but not the most reliable. We got my mates up to about a ton 20, then the wing mirrors folded in ;D
Would recommend one, brilliant

Don't go for a cheapy one to do up as it will be a bag of nails and with good ones so cheap why bother.
Pretty much all 106/205 tuning bits fit right on so the sky's the limit for tuning potential. 500tops is right, get a mk one for the purity of the design inside and out.

We had the basic 1.0 and it was the most unrealiable pievce of plop we ever had. And bits fell off it regularly. And it was only about 4 years old at the time! We chopped it for a Ford Ka. Now thats a great little small car, sadly not in the sub £500 yet.
