Someone has parked a Triumph Dolomite Sprint in the car park ar work. It is in good solid worn condition, just the kind of condition I'd like to find one in. The big question is, how much do they go for?
This could be a very serious contender to the Reliant Scimitar I'd been day dreaming about (though quite a bit different) and could make a more practical every day car being a conventional salloon with four doors.
So, can anyone help me out with prices or is this going to get nowhere further than pipe dream?
Regards, Smiler.

Hmm, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled. It would be nice to brake away from Ford which I seem to be plagued with (having said that, I'd still love a mk1 Granny with a 5.0ltr V8) and have always liked Triumphs, despite never owning one.

Hah! That's what I said on the TDC forum.
Might go and have a look at the Blue one, it's fairly local and could be worth putting back on the road, but ten years off could have played havoc with it.
Bout two hours from Wiltshire, could make a good test drive in the car ;D
Just as a quicky :
Shed w/ no tax or test = under 500 Viable project w or w/o T&T = 500-700 Nice daily driver = 700-900 Good condition = 900-1500 (depends on fittings and mods) Mint = 1500-5000 (depends on which bunch of nutters you go to ;D)
Oh - get pics of this one in the car park ;D

When I finish the 2.9 conversion on the 'tina I'll come up and meet you half way. I wouldn't like to say who'll get to the halfway point first though!

Yea - I mean the yellow one I linked to up there, with the dodgy overspray - this was an ex-Jigsaw testbed car, excellent engine, had run low 15's at the Pod, full AVO shockers - no-one seemed to want to buy it.
It had a dodgy spoiler, and some fairly grim cosmetic rust but was very solid and it certainly wasn't something a few w/ends with some filler and paint could sort, T&T it sold on the 'bay for 700 quid (or didn't, but that's what the going price was because no-one bought it and there was no reserve).
No one seemed interested!

Oh - get pics of this one in the car park ;D I'm afaraid I can't, I work on a military airbase and no cameras are allowed so if I got caught (likely, CCTV!) I'm in the poo. It's a dark blue one with a bit of weathering but that seems to be all. I'd prefer a lighter coloured one myself.

No, much darker than that. Looking at it, I reckon it was restored at some point (to a high standard) and is just getting weathered. It's a V reg car with what appears to be a faultless interior and the correct alloys still fitted.

Do you still have to tap the tacho face on a Dolly Sprint to wake it up in the mornings?
Mine was a curse word for that

Thanks for the help.
So, is this a viable everyday car? Is it affordable to run on a daily basis? Are there any issues with unleaded?
Or should I go for the Reliant Scimitar as planned with the possible big engine conversion?
Then again, the dolly sprint might be more likely to happen than the Scimitar that could end up as an un-finnished project.

I've never had a problem using mine daily over 2.5 years, people in the club use theirs for work, 100 mile daily commutes, the lot, they can take a lot of stick. The trick is, as with all classics, to buy a good one. Otherwise you're gonna find yourself with the head off, looking at a blown HG and a set of bent valves and timing chain, with gearbox fluid pouring all over the floor as the rear axle falls off ;D So yea, buy a good one (mechanically) ;D and it'll be great. Easy to maintain too, and complete engines go for as little as 50 quid sometimes, so if worst comes to worst......... Milage around town (varies heavily from car to car) can be from 20 up to 30mpg, with 30-40 on a run. No issues with unleaded, although sometimes retarding the ignition does help stop any pinking you might suffer - depends how poor it is in your area, but I run mine on pump gas wherever, be it 95/98 or 99, never had any issues. I treat it to some Millers now and then though, usually every 3 or 4 tanks ...but it's not needed. Bits are dirt cheap, the insurance is cheap, you can get any spare part next day, if not the same day, plenty of suppliers, can get most bits from decent motor factors, etc etc and plenty of tuning and customisation options ;D Go for it!

Well you certainly seem enthusiastic about them. One of my work mates new someone who had a mint one on twin webbers. It used to shut down GTi's for a past time. He sold it a few years ago for £2,200. Aparently there wasn't a mark on it, it was as clean as you could ever hope to find one. If only.
I'm a bit suprised about the availability of parts and a dolly sprint engine for £50 sounds a bit too steep knowing how highly regarded they are. I would have thought there'd be more 16 valve TR7's about if there that cheap.
Deffinately tempted though. Think I'll knuckle down with my present projects and flog them on to raise some funds.

Yea, emphasis on the 'from the' although you could get a gooden at that money. Jigsaw racing sell excellent units for 200 quid now and then, they had one with a fast cam and K&N's go for 150 on the bay a while back, in excellent running order - it's just luck of the draw. They are excellent little beasties and you will not be disappointed if you buy one - especially when you've got the tweaks and tunes to do 60 in ~7 seconds I'll give you a shout when I'm out and about over Easter, might even come all the way down to stretch it's legs There are bargains out there to be had. Such as a beautiful BRG one with 180BHP, twin 45's, lowered, etc etc for 800 quid that I dealt with a few summers back........or Jigsaw racing - sold a Sprint with 280 (!!!!!!)BHP for 1000! Don't know what the rest was like though ;D
