That's some serious kit! 700 bhp in that tiny chassis? That'd be a right lark!

A lot of manufacturers had cars ready, including audi with a mid engined quattro, lancia had two cars ECV1 & ECV2, mazda, toyota, lots and lots! Shame really as it would have been good ECV 1 ECV 2 There were all composite, even the wheels and driveshafts! J

Audi's replacement for the Quattro was sexual. Group S would have been great *n

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Yeah stuff I've read always pointed to it being developed for group S, this site suggests it was developed for group B firstly, just at it got cancelled. Still seems a waste whatever it was designed for. Got to be the most insane dash I've seen. Quality touches being the cigarette lighter and the choke pull ;D

i thought group S was going to be limited to three hundred horsies or so? so wouldnt that mr2 been abit overpowered by a big margin if it was supposedly a group S car?

Great find, kinda what i had in mind but less serious. See its no hair dressers car. your hair dresser would have the shakes after going in that, which is no good for business, unless your hairdresser likes cutting off customers ears! I saw that a while ago on that racing site. damn i lost the link, will add the pic at work tomorrow

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Had a look about and seen that the MR2 was for either B or S. They made three versions of the car with 2.0 Turbo engines, two were rear drive, one of these had the engine transverse the other north / south the third car was 4 wheel drive.
Group S was going to be limited to 1.2 litres but I don't think the BHP was capped.

That's bloody cool, I've never seen that Group S car before, although I'd seen the Lancia prototypes and they look bloody cool! Another car that would have been cool to see in the Group S championship was the Moskvitch entry, based very, very loosely on the 2141 Aleko (i.e. the Simca 1308/Chrysler Alpine copy) and used a version of the Aleko's 2 litre engine, placed centrally driving the back wheels. Here's the original Aleko by the way so you know what car I'm on about. Unfortunately I get the feeling that even if the cancelling of Group S hadn't killed it, the competiton would have, apparently this prototype was only putting out in the region of 175bhp from a 2 litre engine, although I dare say they would have got much more out of it by the time it got out in anger, but I still can't see the cast iron engined, Moskvitch prepared Aleko managing anywhere near the pace of a mid engined Audi quatro or 700bhp MR2. That and by this stage the Soviet government probably wouldn't have been able to pay to keep it in the Group S championships anyway, had the Group S championship got under way in the late 80s like planned it would have been right around the time the USSR was in collapse so I doubt it would have got to rally much anyway. Still a cool car though, apparently it did get to see action, but only in small Soviet championships and is now in a private collection.
