Last weekend i took my old mk1 down for an mot and, to cut a long story short, it bombed big time. Excessive corrosion on the inner sills around the seatbelts and rear spring hangers, along with a few other minor bits.
In the space of about 10 hours i went from being all hyped up about the car, having not drove it for nearly a year and realising how cool it was, to just not wanting to look at it and seriously considering scrapping it and just cutting my losses.
I even PM'd nick b to see if he was interested in buying it back, fortunatly he never got back to me because a few hours later i'd changed my mind and decieded to keep it and do the welding and stick an mot on it so i've got something to use for the summer while the cortina is being sorted.
Anyway, I said i was gonna cut a long story short, so heres to the chase.
I went down the workshop today and started stripping it out ready for all the new panels i've been collecting for it. Heres what i found.
It don't look to bad from here.
Interior stripped. This took about 5 minutes ;D.
Sorry about some of these pics being a bit crappy, i was using my phone and it was getting dark.
O/S inner sill
O/S again, a bit further back.
N/S. What doesnt show up too well is that the floor and sill have parted company the whole length of the car. Oops.
Nice! That hole in the center is where the seatbelt mounts
I didnt get any pics of the outer sills but they're a work of art. Lets just say that one of the former owners must have got a mig for christmas and spent boxing day with a hangover learning to weld
I've also got this in the corner of the workshop which i'll stick in before i mot it.
;D ;D ;D ;D
Should go well on the standard box and diff. Its got an injection head I've just discovered too.
