I would suggest the fact he was 85 was probably a bit more to blame than the existance of sat nav. Old people were driving the wrong way up dual carriageways long before sat nav was invented!

Is it really a write-off though? Surely the damage would have to cost more than the car is worth, and one of only two of that particular Rolls Royce has to be worth a lot. So the damage would have to cost a hell of a lot?
Meh. You can't mitigate for people...

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

That will be repaired - these things are so valuable that the repair costs are well worthwhile.

Good job murphy and pifco are no more, thats what I say.lol. I would contact the owner of the one left to see if he wanted any bits. lol. Big shame though, but at least the one left is now more valuable. ;-0

Turning on Sat Nav is not an excuse to turn off your brain. The problem with these people who have these problems with them are that they are idiots in the first place, the Sat Nav is just an excuse.
I used to hate navigating my dad. The number of times I'd say "take your next left" and he'd turn into a pub car park, up someone's drive or the wrong way up a one way or something defy believing. And this is before he had the excuse of being old.
I use a Satnav and I manage just fine with it. Its a £49.99 eBuyer special, and its spot on.
I see these headlines like "Satnav told driver to drive off cliff" and the like and you wonder what part of the driver's brain is missing.

That Rolls will get repaired. I've seen VERY mangled stuff get repaired when its that "exotic" - when I say "seen" I mean from my days dropping in to classic body shops and coachbuilders... Not to suggest I was in any way involved. The economics of repairing that are very different to that of fixing a HC Viva or something.

Yeah it'll get repaired hopefully. As said they're a driving aid you've still got to engage your brain and follow road signs etc.

We have a sign at the top of our road warning people not to follow their sat nav as the dirt track at the bottom has been blocked with bollards for about 30 years but the satnav maps say its driveable, pain in the when its an artic thats driven down there. My Garmin knows you cant drive through, but then i keep the maps updated, i think half the mapping errors would vanish if people could be arsed to plug them into the PC and get the map updates, its like trying to navigate with a 10 year old road atlas otherwise.

"I was using the sat nav properly but users should be made more aware they should only use them as a guide"
That's the problem right there. I'm sure some people think they're an auto pilot system.

That's the problem right there. I'm sure some people think they're an auto pilot system. Back when working at 'frauds, I had a customer return a 3 week old Garmin wanting an exchange. He said there must be something wrong with it, because after taking him on holiday to Spain and back, when he arrived home it said "Arriving at destination on Left" and his house was on the right hand side of the road. Apparently getting him thousands of miles across Europe without issue, then directing him to the location of his postcode was not good enough. Same with the lane guidance thing - There were some roadworks in Sheffield city centre (for a change!) and a customer came back complaining that they had (and I quote) "Almost caused a pileup swerving across 3 lanes of the parkway at the last second" because the sat nav obviously hadn't taken into account a road closure. Apparently it was faulty and dangerous. Not the driver swerving, it was the TomTom that was dangerous!
