think the rac site has a basic enquiry service too, go to rac.co.uk, then go to: car buying, vehicle data search. this works off just the registration plate. tony (topghia) told me about it just the other day!

RAC will give you date of first registraton, colour, engine size, number of owners, and the model and body style information that appears on the V5. DVLA will give you more or less the same, minus the owner information, but it will tell you when the tax expired. if you have the V5 to hand (or can guess the validation digit!) it will tell you when the last V5 was issued. if you want to pay, but don't want to pay HPi, then Experian do a car data check service too, run from just across the road from where i work  RAC (seems to be down at the mo?) DVLAExperian (or use the AA) |
