my mother in law ,for her sins has a 94/5 felicia ,with the skoda lump not the vw one.(for her sins) problem is the battery keeps going flat.the local joe bloggs mechanic diagnosed a dodgy battery,which he changed,trouble is it still goes flat,sometimes overnight,sometimes while she's driving it.i borrowed a battery/alternator tester today and both the battery and alternator appear fine,the batteries holding charge and the alts pushing out 14.0v.i'm at my wits end on why it keeps going flat.any ideas? (btw i'm a complete novice when it comes to electrics so please laymans terms only,none of your ohms and millivolts please)

;)If the battery tests out as being OK and the alternator is charging, then you must have something draining it. [Stating the obvious ;D] I reckon the alternator has an intermittent fault,which would explain while the battery occasionally goes flat while driving. Also a faulty diode in the alternator can discharge the battery while the engine is switched off,even though it may still charge OK while the engine is running.

then you must have something draining it. [Stating the obvious ;D] left myself open for that didn't i?  i was wondering if they had a common problem with this like fr'instance water leaks causing a short or something similar. looks like i will need to get the alt off and checked by an auto electrician.thanks dave ;D |

;)Only teasing mate! ;D Actually, now you come to mention it a common fault on Felicias is for the screen to leak and rot out the fusebox which is under the passengers side of the dash. Deffo worth a look.  |

andy put a multimeter(on amps) on the pos side then to the battery see how much its drawing ie 1 amp 5amp etc may give you a better idea of whats drawin the charge ie big amps faulty heated screen switch low amps could be say side lights hope ive not confused ya andy forget to say andy pull the plug on the back of the altnater then see if it goes flat if it doesnt its duff diods in side the alt |

i had the same problem on my mk2 golf for all the time i had it, when i took it too the auto sparky he just sucked his teeth and said"weeerl it could be anything mate" with a caribean holiday look in his eye.
never did get to the bottom of it, even with my posh multimeter.

OK, non starts, battery drains and the like tend to be an alternator problem on Felicias. They check out as OK, but have intermittent problems. Very common apparently.
As it is a Felicia, Skoda dealers will still look at them, but it will cost.
It's true they also have a tendency to leaky windscreens too, so the fuse box problem could be right too.
