Right everybody,
At a vehicle show the other week the topic of welding (suprise, suprise ;D ) was being discused and one of our recent members in relevant club (who is also in the motortrade) 'declared' that ARC welding is NOT allowed anymore on vehcile bodywork !!!
Does anybody know about this 'directive' (or is it like a certain motorfactors I know who 'claimed' that motorfactors can no longer produce brake pipes ...and inturn found to be complete lies, as all the other motorfactors in my town do ).
Although I fully understand MIG is usually the most suitable, ARC I myself find (stress 'I') is better at 'penetration' when say welding chassis sections together.
Am I not qualified in welding, it was just that I taught myself with a second hand Arc welder (bought for £15 of a mate) which in turn I used to patch up/replace panels on my Mini Clubman and Austin A35. Plus any welding (with my old arc welder) I have done/do has always been to M.O.T spec.
As you may gather I am a little concerned
I have no proof of these claims other than what I heard at the weekend, so any further advice anybody?
