Hi guys I'm going to be putting a quick release steering boss on the next incarnation of the imp, and they come in different diameters. Does anyone know the diameter of the column? I asked on the imp club forum, and i have absolutley no responses, not a sausage. I don't think they like me much on there. Cheers J

I honestly couldn't tell you mate, sorry. You could try going out to the Imp with a ruler or tape measure or similar and trying to get a measurement that way?

measure the circumference with a dressmakers' tapemeasure? Everyone seems to have one...

Hey chris,
If you could go have a look at the shaft diameter that would be awsome, it should be visible without removing anything. Been super busy with the imp project and my dissertation, the next imp is going to be much more stock in some respects and a lot more crazy in others! Interior is going to be pretty normal (carpets heater etc) but with my kevlar bucket and the roll cage, short ratio shifter (possibly carbon) and there is a possibility of a carbon dash too. I'm going to front rad the new shell and the 930 will be running a T3 turbo and a supercharger, all intercooled with an audi RS2 intercooler. I have got a lot of TIG'ing to do for all the piping to get the system to work!
As for imp 06, i really want to go but I'm undecided, its such a long way (around 8hrs driving) that it might be totally impractical. Ill have to wait and see how things work out. Also ill only get jip for not taking the car on track to 'prove' its potential.
cheers J

Ah I see the problem, if I could find what the f*ck I've done with my tape measure I'd go out to the garage and help you myself, but me being me I don't have a clue where I've put the thing. (The tape measure, not the garage, I'm not that disorganised! ;D)

HELP - garage lost, last seen sunday night Large reward if found still containing car
hehe
Anyways thanks for the assistance guys, planning is the biggest part of any project for me. Proper planning made the build of the last car go very smoothly and took very little time, so I'm hoping to replicate this on the next one. Does make it kind of difficult with the car being 300 miles away, then again I'm fortunate to know the imp inside out, ive got a pretty clear mental image with just a few dimensions letting me down.
cheers

I can see the advert stapled to the trees right now HELP - garage lost, last seen sunday night Large reward if found still containing car J ;D ;D It is a funny image! Your project sounds pretty cool by the way, I can't wait to see (and hear) your second generation turbo Imp in the flesh some time once it's done, when my own (much less impressive) Imp project's done I intend to attend more shows with it so I must attend a show you're at some time just to hear your Imp running! ;D

I cant wait either!
It should be really cool once its all sorted out, but as i said I'm in the boring but very nessacary planning stage. Saying that its still fun because of all the dreaming i get to do, and working out cheap ways to do expensive things!
As always with me though the engine will come first and nice shiny bits come second, so itll be a runner either way.
Cheers

Gotta be done for C.A.R.S keefy, theres no two ways about it!
There should be no problem as the system i use for planning means that once the build is ready to start, it should only take a few weeks. The last turbo setup took 2 weeks to get up and running (state seen at retro cars), and then another couple to get all the little bits finished (state seen in the magazine). This one should take a bit longer at around 6 - 8 weeks, but this is purely to do with the amount of fabrication needed, also this one is going to be finished to a much higher standard than the rat turbo.
The bit that takes time is the part procurement, as you can never trust suppliers to be on time (or at least this is what ive found running a few projects). I try and be totally reliable with payments and any part of my side of the deal, and this seems to smooth things along a bit. The best i can do is get it all ready now, so that when the time frame arrives for building i can just jump in and really get my teeth into it!
cheers
J
