I'm shortly sorting some insurance with specialists (roadsure, FJ, Flux etc) for both cars. The V8 Sierra which i hope to have on the road for 'testing' soon, shares the entry-for-all locks the fords of the 70's like fiestas and capri's did. Doyou think its worth me completely shaving the locks and fitting a Cat 1 alarm seen now seen on ebay for cheeper than i thought £200+, and Central locking? I thought they were £300-400 search.ebay.co.uk//search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=cat+1+alarmToad Ai606, any good?Or can you recommend a good aftermarket lock for drivers door, and the inclusion of a cut off switch or summat. This will be virtually a full time street car/daily driver. Cheers

If someone wants your car bad enough, they'll take it regardless. However, against the opportunist the safest bet is any decent alarm and a couple of hidden or sequenced kill switches.

I had a Toad Ai606 on one of my previous cars and found it to be very good. I also had a Clifford Avante Gaurd on my previous Ascona but it was prone to false alarms, no matter how I adjusted the sensitivity.

Snap off steering wheel (or unbolt it) and leave gloveboxes ect open and empty. If there is no motivation or means they cant and wont take it.

Yeah old Fords are hideously easy to steal, not that i've stolen one you understand, but any key fits and HoTWiring cant take a masters in electronics , so don't want it disappearing after being garaged and unused forever. though an alarm and delocking might cheer up insrance, mind i also don't want that unusual glass smashed either

A tracker is the best bet. At least if the unthinkable does happen, you stand a better chance of getting it back. They are expensive, but depending on how much time and money you have invested, it might be worth it.

Good idea sounds a but serious, i'm Likely to attract joyriders mostly i recon so want to keep their grubby mits off.
However, some guy with a concours Cossie, had it lifted and Karted away despite all the security available, different cos its a 'Cossie' though, i hope.

If I'm leaving my car for a while, I usually take the rotor arm out. Doesn't stop all the damage caused by breaking in but at least it won't go anywhere. Can't recommend any aftermarket alarms as I've never used one, but I know what you mean about old Fords having slightly lax security measures!

Many a time i have wished my cars would get nicked... where i live they are put in the barn and the best deterant is the homeless man living in the barn called nutter lawrence who wanders round with a large pickaxe and smashes up asbstos without a mask!
You can rent him if you like

Got this email from the forum member known as Higgim ( ) .. for some reason that we've never got to the bottom of he can't log in,.. so this is what he says : "Reanimation has just posted about the Toad Ai606 alarm. Well, I had the same alarm fitted to my Golf for 6 years without any problems, no false alarms, doesn't trigger at the slightest gust of wind, can be set to plip silently when activated and comes with loads of useful functions (pet/kids mode), valet mode. It will also tell you why it went off, so for example 3 flashes of the LED if the passenger door was triggered. It came in handy a few times."

Fantastic, Cheers hoTWire, Cheers Higgim. If they are that good for the money sounds like a worthy addition to any Retro Ride. Higgam, can you not try re registering with a new name or something, a distant welcome anyway.

i'd shave the locks anyway, i know it looks a bit 'barry' but the first thing any scumbag will do is stick a screwdriver in there and have a good waggle, ruining both the lock and the door. then go for a few visuals like the snap-off wheel, but back it up with a good thatcham alarm.

I remove the Rotary Arm if leaving the car anywhere for any amount of time. Of course this does not stop em talking the interior but of course that takes longer hahaha
