retro cars are most DEFINITELY not in my family - they are convinced the stork got lost the night I was born. As far as my family are concerned, new cars are the way to go and only people with no money have old cars (That's the Gib mentality though, you an't blame them for that) oh, and girls cook, they don't fix cars I got into cars generally by getting into Dubs and then being around some of the best people I could ever hope to meet who have slowly but surely helped nurture my love of old cars

MMmm....my dad's had about 30-40 cars, so kinda got it off him. Pontiacs, Rover coupes, old BM's, Granadas, Merc's, big ol' Ford and Vauxhall wagons, Citroens, MG's, Triumphs, the lot....
So that's where it all started ;D

Well in the blood in this family. Dad had a couple of Mini Coopers in the 70's, followed by an MG Midget, Camaro, Pontiac Tempest with 383 Chevy and tunnel ram, then a string of old junk, then a Cobra, then the '34 Ford hotrod.
I was supposed to have a Golf or something 'reliable' for my first car, I was banned from having a classic or a VW bus but then dad came crashing in one evening all excited because he'd found a 100E for sale nearby. After I smashed thaat up I got the Anglia I still have. Also had a Capri sit on the drive for a bit, but never did anything with it.
Brother has had a Mk1 Escort followed by a Mk1 Cortina. No modern cars at all between us two!

most of my family have no interest in cars, especially not my dad who when i was growing up got a company car every 3 years (Mk3 escort, sierra, 2xmondeos etc) so i didn't get it from him. I think my Grandad my be to blame, he has been an engineer all his life and always encouraged me to dismantle and tinker with stuff including his Mk1 seat ibiza that he gave me when he had to give up driving.

The family trade skipped a generation for me, as an engineer my grandpa made all of the props for the old james bond films (like gold fingers mechanical hand). He also did a lot of work for rolls royce making brass window surrounds and the like. He died before i got my first car in a magazine although I'm sure he would have been proud.
My dad has always loved cars, but has slowly been slipping away from the mechanical side of things. Hes got lots of stories about working on cars, like making a set of mufflers for his humber that looked stock but had just a lenght of pipe in the middle! He had a mini cooper s that repetedly blew up and he sold that, also he had an elan S2 but that blew up aswell!
He used the elan to court my mum with, and blew the head gasket at some terrific speed on their first date! It had to go after a landie reversed on to the bonnett and split the car at the bulKhead!
He also had a capri 2.8i that he used to race cars around the heathrow circular (back when it wasnt sooo busy!). He raced a porsche once and the porsche would have won if the capri hadnt been so sideways he couldent get past!
Recently he has had a few fun cars aswell as his dalily driver (BMW 530D) These included a 350bhp lancia evo xtreme, a dodge ram 1500 pickup, and a cobra replica.
I love him to bits for all the help and support he gives me when i get stressed with fabricating for the car, and i also love my mum to bits for making me food and copius amounts of ice cold juice.
Cheers mum and dad

My dad and a few of his mates started a local transport museum during the 60's. One of his mates bought a bus in '65, then my dad bought a truck and then they bought another one and another one, until they had too many to deal with!!! We always spent our time as kids at the local steam rallies etc in some old bus or fire engine, so thats where my influence comes from. But my dad has never had any interest in owning a classic himself, always owned new cars and changed them every 3 years or so. Now the museum hold about 100 vehicles and is a very professionally run set up (although entirely staffed by volunteers) www.ipswichtransportmuseum.co.uk/
