Just trying to think of a cheap and easy way of making a few panel stands. I don't want to be spending hundreds on the real thing as I'm not a professional painter.
I'm not feeling my usually creative self right now so any ideas welcome ;D
Even if its adapting a similar device to suit panels like clothes stands
They need to hold wings and bumpers.

James (EightSix) made a stand from an old weight lifting bench we had kicking around down at Area 52.
I'll try and find the pics/details for you. It's exactly the sort of thing you see being slung out at the local tip....so that might be worth a visit before you think of spending out on any metal?

Found it: Panel standNot massivley relevant to the process but hey .. I felt like posting it! As I was going to be painting the panels off the car I needed some way to suspend them so I could spray them easily. I dug out what was the remains of what was a weight lifting bench press from the A52 scrap steel stash. Gave it a bit of thought, did some chopping and then broke out my welder and stuck it all together. Some pipe cladding and job done! Should come in handy, it also flat packs and has adjustable height … Nice! *update* For what is effectively a 30 min lash up at Area52 and made from scrap the stand is awesome! Had a bonnet on it and it was nice and stable – also great for hanging bumpers off it too. Another Area52 engineering triumph! Hope that is some help?

its easy, get some old conduate or small tube/box or something. Make two I shaped frames and put a pivot bolt through the centre of both. A bit of chain and a pin welded on half way up makes a great adjustible hight mechanism too. Stick a bit of pipe insualtion on the top to stop it scatching up painted panels. SIMPLE
