How can you be bored with a T5?!

going like a bat out of hell, great fun knowing you would withstand a direct nuclear strike, reassuring driving 2 miles a day in traffic in an auto constantly changing gear, not much fun knowing you are slowly klling the car by not driving it for any distance, bloody worrying!

I can understand your reason for changing but I would have thought a 944 would be even worse for that

to be honest the t5 isnt what i thought it would be, its a bit of a 1 trick pony, it can go fast in a straight line, but thats about it. quite characterless, IMO. i don't know if its because mines an auto but i find it utterly unengaging. i'm sure if i messed about with bits and pieces i could improve it a bit, but i cant be bothered!
the thought process behind the 944 is i have always wanted one, it wont be an auto and wont have a turbo strapped to it to go wrong. plus we are going to get a 'family' car to do day to day stuff in, quite fancy a mk3 escort estate, so all daily running cost will be next to nowt.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

My mate's got a minty 70k maroon non-turbo 944 and to be honest it's a bit lame. It's handling is OK but it's a bit bloody slow. He's just spent 400 on a chip and work on the air intake bit of the engine. It became a bit friskier but it's still slow.
I would make sure you go for a turbo because otherwise you'll be taking a major step down from the T5 speedwise. As with all Porsches you need a big file of receipts, service history, seals and gaskets done or low mileage, Porsche Owners Club membership (the PO, not you) and don't buy anything that has a hint of not being what the PO says it is.
Buy a non-turbo if you want a harsh ride, no room and the chance of being blown off the lights by a Peugeot 205 GTI, Civic Type R, etc. Buy a turbo if you want affordable reliable German sportiness, and still no room. If you have the cash you may want to look at the 968 for proper Porsche speed.

my art teacher at school had one and he had the biggest wart in the entire world on his face so for that reason alone i would reconsider
but seriously ive not heard wonderful things about em; there are plenty better handling things for commutes
