I got the bus Taxed online in about 4 minutes this morning FREE TAX ! That joy was followed later by 10am by a really bummer feeling. Called Equity Red Star (Adrian Flux) to inform them of the increased capacity of the engine...... 1500cc to 1800cc I was paying £89/year, comprehensive..... System voided my insurance with the new engine, and could not compute. Dejected I asked for other options,..... Yes, Highway can do your van for £718/year Highway robbery ? I spoke to the lady and explained it was not a rocket ship etc. Asked her to see what else they could do for me...... This is a retro classic, not a builders van, doing a couple of shows a year. Not expecting a miracle. At 4pm I got through to them again as I had been working real hard all day, and spoke to Holly..... the case had been passed on to a superviser for review, keep in mind, the Transit is the only one on the road in the UK. She came back with a tariff of £122/year, so about £32 up for the 300cc increase in capacity... more my kind of increase. Also got Flux recovery with that. So a good outcome in the end. Sometimes it is worth being nice to the human who is driving the computer, to explain more clearly, as the system is programmed to just deal within parameters.

Nice work mate really helps to talk to insurers and not just hit the net. I had one quote of £2700 for one of my rides, now down to £300-odd from a little telephone talking. I insure 4 vehicles at just over £1k a year now, hurts sometimes but not as much as a raping from the constabulary

Good on you Grizz, I was telling a lad this the other day who was getting dejected with £3000 insurance quotes. Time on the phone is time well spent. Didn't know the van was the one and only on the uk roads, all the sweeter There are 4 we know of. The one Dave found me, was the first, then the 2nd one went to Nigel Bickle, and thenTom123 over in Essex brought one in from Dusseldorf IIRC. The Ford Heritage centre in Dagenham was gifter with one in Dove blue froma Nunnery in France, who had used it up to about 78k kms, probably the highest miler I have heard of to date, but clearly back in the day many were working vans and would have done propper miles, unlike the ones we have that are mostly ex Fire dept, so with miles under 10k miles in many cases, mine had only done 7k kms. We do not know of any others in the country, and as far as I know mine is the only one with MOT/TAX and on the road. The result of my chat on the phone, and telling her that my honesty was being "punished" by the system, as the PC cannot think..... had a good result, and as Edd says, its worth doing sometimes.

Yep, I have all 4 classics insured with agreed values, fully comp, Euro breakdown and unlimited mileage all for about £120. This is with Peter James (formerly the James of Footman James). The deals are out there, but don't go by the on-line quotes, phone them and speak to a human being, like Rian did.

I have £680 in my pocket, which I did not have between 10am and 4pm yesterday. Conversation, and a gentle approach rules. ;D
