Search function doesn't like "CRX" Getting the boot from work in a couple of weeks and so, losing the co. car. (Diesel Corsa, going, Yay!) Looking at a circa '89, '90 CRX to replace it as don't trust the GMC to be that reliable. I know they rot, and sunroofs leak, but owt else to be aware of? Penannce:

they rot in the rear arches, then the sills, the sun roofs also tend to rot but more on the inside so its cosmetically bareable.
mileage is irrelevant, just make sure its been serviced, the vtec one isnt necessarily faster than the non vtec one - big arguments about that.
ive had 2 and they're totally awesome cars, you wont find many unhappy owners. 1000% reliable too.
get on crx-uk, do a search on google, everything has been covered on there, if you search you will find.
i still go on there and havnt owned one since 2007! really are great cars and you get appreciative comments from those in the know. very quick too!
get one!

A chap I know used to have a grey one lowered slightly over Momo Arrows. It looked awesome. These cars are definitely on my list of future stuff I want to own.

Had one for a few years - great car, speedy, handles nicley, look awesome, comfy, reliable and surprisingly quite spacey as well! I had the VT model - going past 6k always put a smile on my face.
Never gave me any trouble other than basic wear parts needing replacing (clutch etc). Cars have a good following, lots of options for upgrading and residuals are starting to climb.
CRX uk is the place to be for CRX chat, lots of help and info.

I found rear visibility to be difficult, and a bit awkward to get into as the seats are so low (could be my long legs though). Rust as covered above. That was about 5 years ago when I was looking at one. I've recently started looking again, casually...

ive had both the 16v and vtec. I loved both, but preferred the vtec, and i feel was noticeably faster! The vtec revved to the limiter 8200rpm! It wants to go further, and some raise the limiter... My 16v was in mint condition and with 82k and i paid £400 for it. The vtec was i think about 3 years newer, had 130k on the clock and I paid 2.5k! It also had rusty rear arches/ripped leather bolsters on the driver seat and the sunroof never sat right in its runners. Id have another in a heart beat.

Very cool looking cars. Never driven one, or even been driven in one, but sat in one once in a scrapyard. Nice chairs, though I'm assuming most don't come coated in scrapyard mud and broken glass. Have a video of someone driving too fast:

i had an early 1984 1500 12v ,and then a 1989 1600 16v , both were awesome cars , bulletproof srefooted etc, rear arches and sills are the areas to watch mainly , i'd have another mk1 tommorrow!!

I currently have an 89 mk2 non vtec and I love it to bits
extremely reliable, rediculously quick, great fun to drive, very comfortable, awesome handling cars.
they do have a low seating position, but I have no problems at 6ft 5in.
vtecs have a better tuning potential engine wise, but the 16v's can be bought for pennies and arent a lot slower.
good economy on a run too, I managed 40mpg sitting at 90mph from newcastle to silverstone
also, when looking to buy, high mileage means nothing the main thing that u should be concentrating on is bodywork/rust, usual spots are sunroof panel, rear arches, sills (remove sill covers if possible), front wings and rear end behind bumper/ boot floor

Quite a leap from 'Burban to a CRX! Nah, keeping the Safari for stuff other than commuting - US stuff over here doesn't suit our roads 100% of the time. Safari burns A LOT of gas at motorway speeds, but it's really happy at 55/60mph for obvious reasons. And as for low seats - i'm built like an italian - short legs and not that long overall - and compared to the GTM it'll be positively capacious. So, overall, according to the above, CRX=WIN. Watch this space.....

Have a video of someone driving too fast: Not fast enough apparently ;D. The throttle-bodied B16 got replaced with a modified B20 (have a look at the Banzai feature on it here), which is now being replaced by a K20...

can you fit me in for a haircut sometime next week?
i've had a mk1 16v and a mk2 1.5, both were amazing and drove faultlessly, rusty arches are the killer, mechanical bits are easy to come by, look for a healthy shell.
i just bought a crx estate the other week-ee8 civic iVT.

Would love to see a mk2 crx in a style too that 240sx, if you havn't seen it i'm sure it'll divide opinions. + = As to reliability, as a small, vtec, slightly aged honda, it's likey to have been put through it's paces once or twice so suspension and engine wear.. but then what car doesn't have that? and i'm told they don't like being driven through water deeper than a big puddle.

I'm told they don't like being driven through water deeper than a big puddle. Ha, did go through a VERY big puddle on the road once; interesting seeing the water splashing over the fixed glass roof (japanese spec SiR). Car didn't seem to mind apart from the water tearing loose one of the plastic wheelhouse liners but then it does still have original complex intake/airbox plumbing. As you should find, 2nd gen CR-X came in at least 3 basic specifications, Basic Civic spec. 1.3-1.5 l 16-valve SOHC (US/Japan), 1.6 l 16-valve DOHC (standard UK/Europe/Australia, Si in Japan) 1.6 l 16-valve DOHC Vtec ( UK/European iVT, SiR in Japan) Japanese more likely to get fixed glass-roof, climate control, power steering etc. Vtec engines obviously having tremendous snob/thrill value when revved out, but engines weighed more & being most expensive, top-spec model were more likely to be loaded with accessories adding more weight... combined with sporting close-ratio gearbox to let you keep revs in the wild-cam, in normal use it's often not as fast as it could be. Worn 2nd gear syncro? Hideous aftermarket body-kits/wings/wheels? Though original Mugen-style body kits still a classic.
